Fred Wentworth’s designs to be featured at lecture
Join Richard Polton on April 23 for a discussion of architect Fred Wesley Wentworth. This 7 p.m. program is part of the Ridgewood Library’s Preservation Week series and will be held at the library, 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Wentworth designed two landmark Ridgewood buildings, the Old Post Office and the Ridgewood Trust Company Building. In his new book, “The Life & Times of Fred Wesley Wentworth: The Architect Who Shaped Paterson, NJ and its People,” Richard Polton explores the impact Wentworth had on Ridgewood and other northern New Jersey towns where his buildings still stand. Polton, who lives in Glen Ridge, is
a founding principal of Value Research Group, a real estate valuation and consulting firm and he specializes in issues of affordable housing and urban redevelopment. He studied American history at Columbia, architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design and city planning at MIT. He is also on the board of trustees of the Hamilton Partnership for Paterson, a non-profit organization to help launch the Paterson National Park and enhance its educational, social, and economic benefits for Paterson and the nation. Polton will sign copies of his book at the event. For more information, call (201) 6705600, extension 135 or visit www.ridgewoodlibrary.org/localhistory.
