All American Scout Café set Join Boy Scout Troop 157 on May 24 for the annual All American Scout Café. This event will be held at the Midland Park Fire House, 45 Witte Drive, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The menu will include meatball subs, sausage and pepper subs, hotdogs, and old fashioned apple pie. Tickets are $8, and include a choice of subs, hotdogs, dessert, chips and a beverage. Items may also be purchased separately. Takeout orders are welcome. In the event of rain, seating will be set up inside the firehouse. Fire department to host memorial The Midland Park Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual service for deceased firefighters on Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at the firehouse on Witte Drive. For the first time, the traditional service will be held at the outdoor memorial that features a segment of a beam from the World Trade Center. The community is encouraged to attend. Memorial Day Observances Saturday The annual Midland Park Memorial Day Parade and observances will be held on Saturday, May 25. The day’s events will begin with a flag raising at 9 a.m. at the Vietnam Memorial on Dairy Street. The parade will step off at 10 a.m. from the Midland Park Municipal Building, and proceed down Franklin Avenue and onto Godwin Avenue to Veterans Plaza, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Following the service, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will serve refreshments. Concert to feature movie, TV music The Midland Park High School Music Program will present its annual Spring Concert on Thursday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The evening will feature performances by the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble. This year’s concert is centered around music of movies and television. The night will include many old time classics as well as mainstream popular works of today. The night will culminate in a combined performance of all the ensembles. Throughout the concert members of the ensembles will be presented with various department awards and scholarships. The band will also be performing a piece called “Joy Revisited” by Frank Ticheli. This work was provided to the band free of charge by the composer and publisher so that it could be used as a vehicle to highlight relief efforts for Superstorm Sandy. The band is asking all in attendance to bring
a nonperishable food item that is not in a glass container as their ticket to the concert. Food donated will be given to the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties of New Jersey. Ambulance corps holds Seadoo contest The Midland Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps will hold its Seadoo GTI 130 and trailer contest on June 22. This fundraiser will be held at the Midland Park Ambulance Corps Headquarters located at 42 Pierce Avenue. The winner will be announced between 3 and 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 and only 1,000 will be sold. The winner need not be present on June 22. To purchase tickets, call the corps at (201) 444-3838. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to ensure firstclass medical care will continue to be provided to Midland Park residents. Concert series continues The CrossRoads Concert Series sponsored by the Midland Park Church of God will continue May 24 with Tribu12. Pillowcase dress workshop set Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, located at 183 Godwin Avenue, will host a pillowcase dress-making workshop on Wednesday, May 22. The program will be held in Fellowship Hall from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The community is invited to learn how to make dresses from pillowcases for African girls. Pool memberships available Midland Park residents are invited to join the Waldwick Municipal Pool, Crestwood Swim Club in Allendale, and Graydon Pool in Ridgewood. Waldwick is offering memberships to Midland Park residents when purchased by May 25 for $55 for adults ages 18 through 61. Memberships for children ages four through 17 are $50, and badges for seniors age 62 and up are $45. After May 25, an additional fee of $10 will apply. Children age three years and younger are admitted free. First time registrants must register in person and have their ID photo taken at the Waldwick Borough Clerk’s office at 63 Franklin Turnpike. Allendale is offering a limited number of sponsored membership opportunities for Midland Park residents to join the Crestwood Swim Club this summer. The cost is
$200 for adults ages 18 through 61 and $75 for children ages three through 17 and seniors age 62 and older. Teens age 13 and up are offered an individual membership at $100. Summer programs available Registration for the Midland Park Continuing Education Pre-Summer Semester is in progress. The program includes day trips, overnight tours, courses for adults and youths, and summer camps for children of all ages from surrounding communities. Day outings include, A Slice of the Big Apple on June 1, Mount Airy Lodge on June 23, A Summer Day in Southampton on July 17, Hudson River Idyll on July 28, and Food Lovers Fantasy on Sept. 8. Multi-day trips will include Washington, D.C. and Baltimore Inner Harbor from Sept. 20 through 23, and Newport and Block Island from Sept. 30 through Oct. 3. Summer camps for children will include Young Artists Camp, the Art of Mosaics, Fashion Sewing Camp, golf, soccer, girls’ volleyball, Robotics Blast, chemistry, and more.
