Watering regulations updated
by John Koster The Ridgewood Village Council has adopted the new regulations that define watering restrictions for Ridgewood Water Company’s customers in Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Midland Park, and Wyckoff. Watering is not restricted at present, but the standards adopted by the Ridgewood Council offer new definitions of the stages for water emergencies and the watering restrictions that will be imposed. After asking questions of the council, Ridgewood resident Roger Wiegand learned that potential violations would still be penalized by fines. The regulations mention termination of water service as a penalty, but this is unlikely due to sanitary and humane reasons. However, fines after warnings are a realistic possibility. The new standards are: Stage I: Moderate: This means mandatory restriction of irrigation to Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for those with odd-numbered addresses; and irrigation on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays for those with even-numbered addresses. Irrigation using a hand-held hose would be allowed at any time. No irrigation shall be allowed on Mondays, except for the use of a hand-held family through the Y’s Pietro Maugeri Fund.
