Also reelected was Sandra Criscenzo, who will continue as vice-president of the nine-member board. “I am honored. The last year was a lot of work, with successes and setbacks, as was to be expected, but everyone worked hard, and I expect the same will be true in the year ahead,” said Sullivan. “Addressing the district’s aging facilities became a priority for the board last year, and we were given valuable input and feedback from the public. With everything from a failed referendum to a successful budget and second question vote, it felt like we were in a baseball game with a lot of lead changes. I’m proud of the board for choosing to keep all major funding decisions in the hands of the voters as it kept the public engaged and the board focused,” he William Sullivan reelected to head school board explained, adding: “The coming year will bring additional challenges as we work to hammer out a fair contract with the MPEA and help the administration deal with mandated changes in standardized testing and teacher/district evaluation methods. Continuing to address the physical plant, an evolving curriculum and a vision for the future of the district will be daunting tasks, but I can’t think of another eight trustees I’d rather work with. I’m honored that they chose me and Ms. Criscenzo to lead them.” He said board committees would be restructured and announced at a future meeting. Sullivan is serving his eighth year on the board and his second year as president. Criscenzo, reelected to a third term last month, has In answer to several queries from residents, Midland Park borough officials last week clarified a recent change in requirements for Midland Park residents wishing to become members of Crestwood Swim Club in Allendale this summer. In order to join Crestwood, Midland Park residents, as well as Ramsey and Ridgewood residents, who are also welcome to join, must be sponsored by an Allendale resident. This requirement had been waived for Midland Park residents for the past two years. The Allendale governing Crestwood Lake membership clarified body decided to resume original policies and procedures to keep membership balanced. Residents of the towns that attend Northern Highlands Regional High School – Upper Saddle River and Ho-Ho-Kus – do not require a sponsorship. The cost for adults age 18 through 61 years is $200; children age three through 17 and seniors age 62 and older are $75. Teens age 13 and up are offered an individual membership at $100. Midland Park was one of three districts in the northwest Bergen area to hold the annual school election in April, following enabling legislation in 2012 that gave boards of education the option of moving the election to November to coincide with the general election. In other business at the reorganization meeting, the board reappointed Stacy Garvey as board secretary. Also reappointed for the 2013-14 school year were Solutions Architecture as school architect; Fogarty & Hara as school attorney; Lerch, Vinci & Higgins as school auditor; FIRM, Inc as liability insurance broker; Willis of New Jersey as benefits coordinator consultant; ER&M, Inc. as indoor air quality consultant, and Columbia Bank and the State of New Jersey Cash Management Fund as depositories for school funds. The board also decided to approve the purchase of electric generation service through the Alliance for Competitive Energy Services (ACES) by awarding a contract for the common area street lights and service to Godwin, Highland and Midland Park High schools to District Energy Business LLC.
