The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce’s 5K Run/1 Mile Walk on April 28 had a record turnout: 100 more participants over 2012. In all, a total of 721 area residents took part, 90 of them walkers, with 564 crossing the finish line before the clocks were turned off. Massage Envy Spa of Waldwick was the Presenting Sponsor for the third year in a row. Bob Nihen, 24, of Glen Rock was first to cross the finish line with 15:17.9, besting his own 2012 course-breaking record. Colin Sherman, 18, won the David Dunne Memorial “Spirit” Award as the top male runner from Waldwick, finishing in 17:35.4. The top female Waldwick runner was 15year-old Abby McLaughlin, who finished in 20:29.8. “All feedback from around town and from the survey we sent out has been extremely positive. It was a beautiful day. The weather was great. The town was very supportive. Sponsors were extremely generous. Volunteers were outstanding. Residents along the course cheered on the runners. A festive and happy atmosphere. Hundreds of smiling faces. It made our day!” said Run Chairman Stan Kowalski. Photos of the event may be viewed and purchased at http://billsmithuysen.smugmug.com/
