The club will hold an open forum on local campaign issues of interest to residents and will discuss future directions for Republican initiatives in the upcoming elections. The Franklin Lakes Republican Club is a non-profit organization established to represent the Republican Party in Franklin Lakes. The club is devoted to the cause of community improvement and good government through the medium of an organized Republican Party and the support of candidates for public office who will best represent the interests of the residents and taxpayers of Franklin Lakes. Memorial Day Parade set Pay tribute to the country’s fallen heroes at the annual Franklin Lakes Memorial Day Parade set for Monday, May 27 at 9 a.m. The parade will step off from Commerce Street and proceed down Franklin Avenue to Veterans’ Plaza, where there will be a ceremony commemorating U.S. military heroes. U.S. Army Sergeant Michael Bann will serve as this year’s grand marshal. Bann has served in Desert Storm and was the recipient of several medals and awards. The Newark Firefighters Pipe Band will be marching with the high school bands from Ramapo and Hawthorne. Franklin Lakes organizations including Scouts and representatives from the fire, police, and ambulance departments will also be participating. Attendees are invited to decorate their bicycles and join the parade. Refreshments will be served. As part of the day’s events, the RamapoBergen Animal Refuge, Inc. will sponsor a Critter Walk. Borough celebrates Earth Day The Franklin Lakes Environmental Commission and the borough’s recycling program will host its annual Cleanup Day on May 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve off High Mountain Road. Participants may clean up the preserve or other areas of town. The department of public works will assist with directions. A light breakfast will be served and cleanup equipment will be available. Participants are encouraged to wear long pants. This program will begin at 11 a.m. On May 21, advanced computer users are invited to learn to use Microsoft Publisher 2010. This one-hour session will begin at 11 a.m. Participants will learn how to create a poster. The library is located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Council adopts budget (continued from page 7) He said the budget also manages the tax increase by being under the tax levy cap, which is two percent, and it decreases overall debt which, he pointed out, has decreased by nearly $2.2 million, or over 13 percent, since 2008. In addition, Hart said this year’s proposed budget includes $1,100,000 for road improvements that will substantially increase the commitment to the borough’s road improvement program while continuing to decrease overall debt by funding over $550,000 of capital projects in the operating budget. He said the budget will maintain or improve the level of services to borough residents while controlling expenses.
