The day’s events will include a 9 a.m. flag raising, the parade at 10 a.m., and the memorial service at 11 a.m. at Veterans Plaza. Association holds meeting, registration The Midland Park Soccer Association will meet on Monday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Midland Park Library at 250 Godwin Avenue. Families with children involved in the in-town and travel leagues are encouraged to attend. The meeting agenda will include online registration and plans for the fall 2013 season. Registration for the association’s fall season is now open online at www.midlandparksports.com. In-town co-ed divisions include a clinic for children in kindergarten and first grade, the PeeWee program for students in grades two and three, a junior level for players in grades four and five, and senior level for students in grades six and seven. Travel divisions include boys’ and girls’ teams for Division 5 (U9) Division 4 (U11), and Division 3 (U13). The coed Division 2 program is open to students age 17 and under. Girls will play on Saturday mornings. Boys and Division 2 teams will play on Sunday afternoons. The deadline for travel team registration is June 15. Anyone registering after June 15 may be added at the discretion of the MPSA and its volunteer coaches. Late fees, except for clinic in-town teams, will be assessed after May 31. The season for both leagues, in-town and travel, will begin Sept. 7. The MPSA reserves the right to move a player to the appropriate grade level or age division. Club seeks donations for Car Show The Midland Park High School Interact Club will host its Second Annual Car Show and Prize Basket Fundraiser on Saturday, May 11. This event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the high school’s main parking lot in front of the school at 250 Prospect Street. (Rain date: May 18.) The club is requesting contributions of food and drinks to be sold at the show’s concession stand. Sponsors will be acknowledged on the day of the show. Platinum ($50), Gold ($25), and Silver ($15) sponsorships are also available to help fund the event. Sponsors will be recognized on the show’s trophies. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Midland Park/ Wyckoff Rotary Club’s effort to sponsor a Gift of Life Program child. Pack 157 welcomes new members Midland Park Cub Scout Pack 157 will hold a May 3 Open House for boys and their families who are interested in learning more about the Cub Scout program. The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the DePhillips Community Center on Dairy Street. The evening will be filled with activities for the boys and information about Cub Scout programs and events. Cub Scouting, which is open to boys in grades one through five, includes outdoor activities, sports, academics, and programs that promote good citizenship, community giving, and respect. Each year, the group participates in the Memorial Day Parade, New Jersey Jackal Camping Night, Pinewood Derby, and physical fitness challenges. National Day of Prayer set The Annual National Day of Prayer will be observed in Midland Park on Thursday, May 2 at the Midland Park Fire Station at 45 Witte Drive. He must also complete a service project that is helpful to his religious institution, community, or school, which is approved by his Scoutmaster and the district advancement chairman of the Northern New Jersey Council, Boy Scouts of America. For his Eagle project, Martone undertook the building of the Eisenhower Community Garden located at Wyckoff’s Eisenhower Middle School. His project encompassed clearing and preparing the area, construction of a split-rail and wire-mesh fence, designing and installing planting bed sign posts, obtaining donations for a tool box filled with garden tools, and landscaping the area. He provided leadership to the many volunteers who helped build the Community Garden. At Ramapo High, Martone is a varsity epee fencer and squad captain of the Epee Team. He is an officer of the Robotics Team, and a member of the Model UN Club and Physics and Math teams. He mentors middle school students through the Heros and Cool Kids program. He is pursuing advanced course work in math and science as a foundation for his study of robotics in college.
