Projects will include reorganization filing systems, data entry, organizing equipment and supplies, and assisting with communications programs. Board sets budget hearing The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Wednesday, March 27 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Franklin Avenue Middle School at 755 Franklin Avenue. The agenda will include the public budget hearing. Lions host Wine Tasting Night The Franklin Lakes Lions Club will host a Wine Tasting Night on Friday, March 22. The event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes. The cost for the event is $85 per person and will include the tasting of wines, an assortment of butler served appetizers, fruit platters, salad, assorted vegetables, a pasta station, grilled salmon, sliced flank steak, dessert, and coffee. The Wine Seller of Ridgewood will be showcasing approximately 30 wines to sample for the evening. All proceeds will benefit the various charities supported by the Franklin Lakes Lions Club. Friends sponsor free jazz concert On Sunday, March 24, the Kazzrie Jaxen Quartet will present a 2 p.m. concert at the Franklin Lakes Library. Jazz pianist and singer Kazzrie will perform with quartet members on tenor sax, double bass, and drums. The performance will include standard tunes, jazz lines, originals, and occasional excursions into the abstract. A question and answer session will follow. Seats are given on a “first come” basis. Students to perform ‘Oklahoma the Musical’ The students at Franklin Avenue Middle School will perform “Oklahoma the Musical” at the school located 755 Franklin Avenue. Performances are scheduled for Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. A Sunday matinee is set for March 24 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10. Seniors plan events The Franklin Lakes Seniors will hear a program on home and outside assistance, services available to families or individuals, on Wednesday, March 20. For Excellence in Care will present the program. The group will gather at 12:30 p.m. in the firehouse located at Franklin Avenue and Bender Court. A Saint Patrick’s Day luncheon will follow. Temple to celebrate milestones Barnert Temple will celebrate the milestones of Rabbi Elyse Frishman’s 18 years of leadership, the temple’s 25th Anniversary in Franklin Lakes, and its 165 years as a Congregation B’nai Jeshurun at a festive gala benefit on Thursday, May 16 at The Venetian in Garfield. The event will feature cocktail reception and auction, followed by dinner, speakers, an award presentation, and a short film. Ruth W. Messinger, president of American Jewish World Service; Anat Hoffman, executive director of the Israel Religious Action Center; and Rabbi Rick Jacobs, president of the Union for Reform Judaism, will speak about Barnert Temple’s long-term commitment to social justice and Rabbi Frishman’s role as spiritual leader and social action advocate both locally and internationally. Baseline’s previous application to raze the three buildings originally on the property and replace them with a two-story 15,500 sq. ft. office building had been turned down by the planning board in 2009.
