R. Paul Bechle of Naples, Florida, formerly of Wyckoff, died March 3. He was 98. He graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1936 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for the Potdevin Machine Company in Teterboro from 1936 to 1980, where he was vice president and chief engineer. He is survived by his wife Mildred, his children Roger, Charles, Jane Bechle, and Caroline Bogart, several grandchildren, and a greatgrandson. Gene B. Brown of Midland Park died March 6. He was 87. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. During his long career as a specialty chemical sales manager, he worked for American Cyanamid, Shell Oil, and Stauffer Chemical Company. After retirement, he continued to work as a sales consultant for chemical companies. He was a member of the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood, where he had been a Sunday school teacher. Wheeler T. Dell Jr. of Wyckoff died Feb. 28. He was 71. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Reserve. Before retiring, he was a banker with Citi Group and Prudential Security, both in New York. Norma Smallwood-Westdyk Gorman of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, formerly of Wyckoff, died March 5. She was 86. She had been president of Ray Westdyk Swimming Pools and later Buster Crabb Pools and Spas in Hawthorne. She is survived by her husband Edward M. Gorman of Mount Pleasant, her sons Gary Gorman and Kenneth Westdyk, and daughter-in-law Roxanne Westdyk, all of Mount Pleasant. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Janice Westdyk. Memorial donations may be made the Hospice of Charleston in Mount Pleasant. Nancy Hamilton of Midland Park died March 4. She was 79. She was an avid bowler and golfer and was a member of Ridgewood Country Club. She enjoyed time with her family especially the summers spent at her home in Ocean Grove. She was a member of the Abundant Life Church (formerly Second Reformed Church) in Wyckoff. She volunteered with many organizations including The Depot in Midland Park and the Midland Park Republican Club. She is survived by her daughter Karen and husband Mike Rau of Midland Park; her sons John Hamilton and wife Jacqueline of Royersford, Pennsylvania and David Hamilton and wife Michelle of Howell; and grandchildren Steven, Jennifer, Matthew, Nicole, Brittany, Marissa, Rachel, and Rebecca. She is also survived by her sister Jeane De Young of North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1996. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. She was born in Vogelbach, Germany. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of the Nativity in Midland Park. She is survived by her children and their spouses Janet and Bill Den Herder of West Chester, Ohio, Carol and Bob Eid of Mahwah, and James and Mary McKenna of Meridian, Idaho. He was a self-employed cabinetmaker for Nelson Custom Furniture in Garfield. He is survived by his parents Norman J. and Deanna, his siblings Scott D. Nelson, Lori A. Gayle, Cathy A. She was 80. Before retiring, she was a bookkeeper for the Wyckoff News. She was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth’s R.C. Church in Wyckoff, where she was a Cornerstone team member and a CCD teacher. She was a former member of the Rosary Society of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Franklin Lakes. She is survived by her children Elizabeth M. Villano of Mahwah, Thomas J. Rider of Huntersville, North Carolina, Susan T. Brown of Allendale, and Janet L. Travis of Oakland, nine grandchildren, and her brothers Peter Gannucci of Toms River and Michael Gannucci of Florida.
