March 13, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 25 Franklin Lakes Scribe Temple to celebrate milestones Barnert Temple will celebrate the milestones of Rabbi Elyse Frishman’s 18 years of leadership, the temple’s 25th Anniversary in Franklin Lakes, and its 165 years as a Congregation B’nai Jeshurun at a festive gala benefit on Thursday, May 16 at The Venetian in Garfield. The event will feature cocktail reception and auction, followed by dinner, speakers, an award presentation, and a short film. Ruth W. Messinger, president of American Jewish World Service; Anat Hoffman, executive director of the Israel Religious Action Center; and Rabbi Rick Jacobs, president of the Union for Reform Judaism, will speak about Barnert Temple’s long-term commitment to social justice and Rabbi Frishman’s role as spiritual leader and social action advocate both locally and internationally. Proceeds will enrich Barnert Temple’s vibrant programs, outreach, and strategic planning initiatives, with a portion benefitting AJWS and IRAC. Tickets are $150. Students to perform ‘Oklahoma the Musical’ The students at Franklin Avenue Middle School will perform “Oklahoma the Musical” at the school located 755 Franklin Avenue. Friends sponsor free jazz concert On Sunday, March 24, the Kazzrie Jaxen Quartet will present a 2 p.m. concert at the Franklin Lakes Library. Jazz pianist and singer Kazzrie will perform with quartet members on tenor sax, double bass, and drums. The performance will include standard tunes, jazz lines, originals, and occasional excursions into the abstract. A question and answer session will follow. Operation PROM under way Amy Na, a senior at Bergen County Academies, and Cheyenne Wickham, a senior at Ramapo High School, will once again be collecting prom dresses on behalf of the North Jersey Chapter of Operation PROM. Operation PROM is a national organization that has helped students across the U.S. to attend their proms at little to no cost. The dresses collected will be given away at “dress drives” to high school girls who are unable to afford their own. Seats are given on a “first come” basis. Learn about Alzheimer’s disease Dr. Nunzio Pomara of the Nathan Kline Institute will discuss “Memory, Aging, and Alzheimer’s Disease” on March 14 at the Franklin Lakes Public Library. Dr. Pomara will offer information for family, caregivers, and people in the senior population who may be concerned about their memory and changes in memory. The talk will touch on current treatments and their effectiveness, and the alternative experimental treatments now available. All are invited. Temple to present 1931 comedy “His Wife’s Lover,” a 1931 incantation of “You’ve Got Mail,” will be shown in a free public screening at Temple Emanuel of North Jersey on Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m. This romantic comedy follows the travails of a young man (Ludwig Satz) who is seeking a wife. The dialogue is in Yiddish with high-quality English subtitles. Last year, Na and Wickham held two successful dress drives at high schools in Paterson and Garfield and are eager to continue with their endeavors for the upcoming prom season.
