Page 24 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • March 13, 2013 Wyckoff Wanderings Youth group announces events The Youth Group of Abundant Life Reformed Church will hold a Pancake Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 30 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The event will benefit the youth group’s retreat at Camp Warwick, New York. The breakfast will include pancakes, bacon, sausage, coffee, tea, and juice. The cost is by donation. At 10:30 a.m., children from age two through grade five are invited to an Easter Egg Hunt. Holy Week at Abundant Life Abundant Life Reformed Church will begin Holy Week with the distribution of palms on Palm Sunday, March 24, at the 10:30 a.m. service. On Thursday, March 28, there will be a light supper commemorating Jesus’ “Last Supper” in the upper room with his disciples. This 6:30 p.m. supper will be followed by a worship service with Holy Communion. All are welcome. Please bring a hot or cold dish to share. Holy Week will conclude with the Easter Resurrection Worship Service on Sunday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m. The service will feature special music from the choir and the children’s choir and a special message from Reverend Tom Larkin. Parade participants sought The Township of Wyckoff is seeking participants to march in Wyckoff’s Memorial Day Parade. The parade is scheduled for Monday, May 27 at 11:30 a.m. An invitation is extended to the men and women who have served our country and to the local schools, churches, Scouts, and organizations. A special invitation is extended to all Gold Star Mothers who would like to attend the Veterans Memorial Service at 10 a.m. Participants will assemble behind Cornerstone Church at 495 Wyckoff Avenue. The parade will leave the church parking lot and turn left onto Wyckoff Avenue, continue Wyckoff Avenue, and turn right on Main Street, right onto Franklin Avenue, and conclude behind town hall at the ambulance corps building. Goerke to discuss memory improvement On March, 21, the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce will host memory trainer Matthew Goerke, who will present techniques to drastically improve memory. Y to host Healthy Kids Day The Wyckoff Family YMCA, located at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff, will hold Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, March 23. The day will feature carnival-style games, fitness, healthy snacks, and more. Healthy Kids Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the public. New this year is the Y’s “Warrior Challenge,” a onemile run/obstacle course for children ages six through 12. The challenge is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Healthy Kids Day. Pre-registration is required; the entrance fee for the run is $15. Proceeds from the Warrior Challenge will benefit the Y’s Strong Kids Campaign. Save the date: Township plans Shred Fest The Township of Wyckoff will have a mobile paper shredding vehicle available on Saturday, April 6. Residents are invited to bring their paper documents and correspondence to be shredded at no charge. The program will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the recycling center located at 476 West Main Street. At noon, the vehicle will transport the shredded paper to the recycling market, where it will enter the recycling stream. A video display allows residents to witness the shredding of their documents. Personal papers without metal tabs can be shredded. Please note: No plastic bags or X-rays can be shredded. All other recyclables from single layer cardboard to double layer cardboard, glass, plastics #1 through #7, and tin cans, may be deposited at the recycling center in their appropriate containers. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, for every ton of paper that is recycled and redirected into post consumer production, 17 trees are allowed to grow and are not required as raw material for the production of paper. Y hosts Tea Party with Jasmine In conjunction with its performance of “Aladdin,” the Wyckoff Y will host a Tea Party with Jasmine, a principal character of the production. Join the Y on Saturday, March 16 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for tea sandwiches, desserts, herbal tea, and juice. Guests will make a craft and may have their photos taken with Jasmine. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera. Children are invited to come dressed in a favorite party dress or princess costume. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the Y’s front desk. Knights host Fish & Chips Dinner The Saint Elizabeth Council of the Knights of Columbus will host its annual Fish & Chips Dinner on Friday, March 15 in the parish hall on Greenwood Avenue in Wyckoff. Catered by The Thistle, dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children.
