Members of Fire Company 1 win inspection trophy
by John Koster Wyckoff Fire Company 1 has earned the township s 54th annual Fire Department Inspection Contest trophy after the competitive inspection on March 1. The Wyckoff Township Committee congratulated Deputy Chief Joseph Vander Plaat and his firefighters on winning this annual competition. A panel of six independent fire-fighting experts conducted the annual inspection of the apparatus and the verbal examination of Wyckoff’s volunteer firefighters. The members were Lead Inspector James Dougherty, former chief of the Ramsey Fire Department; Brian McDermott, a battalion chief with the Paterson Fire Department; Lieutenant John Tobin of FDNY Rescue 1; Stephen Kalman, deputy chief of the Hackensack Fire Department; Lieutenant Jeffrey Kaplan of the Englewood Fire Department; and former Lieutenant Davis Russell of the FDNY. “The inspection is an intense competition (among) Wyckoff’s three fire companies,” Wyckoff Fire Chief Lou Graglia (continued on page 20)
