Auxiliary plans Fashion Show benefit The Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will meet on Wednesday, March 13 to finalize plans for the 44th Annual Luncheon and Fashion Show. The group will meet at 10 a.m. at Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect Street in Midland Park. This year, the auxiliary is teaming up with the Oakland Branch of VHA to host the event set for April 16 at the Brownstone in Paterson. Learn to manage stress On April 25, professional counselor Eve Thaler, M.A., M.Ed. will present a workshop on managing stress. The program will be held at the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church at 7 p.m. and will include a question and answer session. The workshop will conclude at 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Thaler, a licensed professional counselor at West Bergen Mental Healthcare in Ridgewood and Oakland, has been involved in a therapeutic capacity in community mental health centers since 1978. She specializes in anxiety disorders, including social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and stress management. Thaler is committed to helping individuals promote their mental health and achieve their personal goals and objectives. Part of the church’s Community Encouragement Series, this program is free and open to the public. Midland Park Christian Reformed Church is located at 183 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park. Spaghetti Supper announced The Midland Park United Methodist Church will host its annual Spaghetti Supper on Saturday, March 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children. Library offers programs for children The Midland Park Library will host a drop-in Saint Patrick’s Day craft for children on March 6 and 13. Children are invited to stop by the library from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and pick up the materials to make the craft either at the library or at home. On March 25, registration will begin for Unique Creatures, an interactive educational program featuring an array of live animals. Unique Creatures will be held at the library on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m. The program runs for one hour, and is open to children ages four through 12. To register, call (201) 444-2390. Soccer association plans for fall The Midland Park Soccer Association will meet on Monday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Midland Park Library, 250 Godwin Avenue. Families of children participating in both the in-town and travel leagues are encouraged to attend. The meeting agenda will include a review of the bylaws and plans for the fall

Learn to be debt-free On Thursday, March 7, Midland Park Continuing Education will host “How to Become Debt-Free with the Money You Already Make.” This seminar will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Midland Park High School located at 250 Prospect Street. The one-evening program will offer advice on getting out of debt, operating on cash, and building retirement
wealth. The seminar will provide a step-by-step plan to pay off debt, including a home mortgage. Professional speaker Carl A. Lang will lead the program. Lang is also an author, entertainer, and certified financial independence consultant. No insurance or investments will be offered or sold at this program. There is a $10 workbook fee. I believe that Midland Park offers a top of the line education for all our children (from) kindergarten through high school. “The Midland Park school system has developed a Star Award high school and a Blue Ribbon elementary school. My goal on this board is to see that this type of education continues while remaining fiscally responsible.” Criscenzo, currently the board’s vice president, is seeking her third term. A 12-year borough resident, she holds BA and MA degrees from Kean University. She is an elementary school assistant principal and former teacher with the Livingston School System and a clinical faculty member at Montclair State University. She is active in the elementary and high school PTAs, the Performing Arts Parents Association, and the Boosters Club, and is a founding member of the Midland Park Public Education Foundation. She is a Brownie leader and a past cheerleading coach. Formicola is a 23-year borough resident and a vice president at Merrill Lynch/Bank of America. He is seeking his second term on the board. In addition to serving as a school trustee, he is a member of the Midland Park Planning Board and a former president of Midland Park Basketball and Softball. He is currently a board member of Bergen County Girls Softball. He is a graduate of Bergen Community College and Chubb Institute, and is a Rutgers certified instructor. Formicola is a father of six. He and his wife, Teresa, have been married for eight years. McCourt, 51, has lived in Midland Park for 49 years and is a graduate of Midland Park High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in accounting from William Paterson College. He has been in the banking industry for 30 years and is currently senior vice president/ chief financial officer at Bogota Savings Bank. He is also the secretary of the Financial Managers Society of New York and New Jersey. McCourt is an active travel and recreation team coach for soccer, basketball, and softball. He is a past president of Midland Park Softball and past vice president of Midland Park Soccer. He is a referee for soccer and basketball and an umpire for baseball and softball. An avid runner who can often be seen in town and in neighboring towns, he has participated in multiple marathons. McCourt has two daughters who have already graduated from Midland Park High School and a daughter who is presently a third grader at Highland School. In 2010, he ran a successful write-in campaign after only two candidates filed for the three available seats, leaving the third spot to be filled through the write-in process. Post worked for Schindler Elevator in New York for 15 years and for Midland Park Lumber for 31 years before he retired. He is currently a backup crossing guard. For over 25 years, he was involved in Midland Park’s fifth and sixth grade baseball program. He also spend 17 years as a coach for the fifth and sixth grade basketball program and 23 years with the fifth and sixth grade football program. Over his years of volunteering with the sports programs, Post said he had helped with the parades and with the operation of the refreshment stand. He served as secretary, treasurer, vice president, and president of the various sports organizations. Post also said he was behind the effort to bring the first set of lights to the Midland Park Little League Field. This project was funded by the borough and by Ridgewood philanthropist David Bolger.
