Temple hosts Israeli buffet and film On March 9, Barnert Temple will host a film at the annual, community-wide Israeli Film Festival sponsored by the Israel Program Center of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. This year’s film, “Ameer Got His Gun,” is a captivating documentary about an Arab Israeli young man who chooses to enter the Israeli army to serve his country. Unlike the majority of Jewish Israelis, Arab citizens are not required to enlist in the army out of concern that loyalty conflicts would undermine their ability to serve. This award-winning film follows Ameer’s journey as he straddles the thin line between his own sense of civic duty and the attitudes of the Arab society to which he belongs. An Israeli buffet dinner will be served at 7 p.m., followed by the film and a discussion at 8 p.m. The cost for the dinner and film is $30. RSVP to Jeff Himeles at (201) 403-4537 or jhimeles@optonline.net. Tickets to attend the film only are $8 and may be purchased at the door.
