Wyckoff June 12, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 7 Kevin Kasak promoted to sergeant’s rank by John Koster The Wyckoff Township Committee and police officers were on hand last week as Kevin Kasak took his oath of office as the municipality’s newest police sergeant. Sergeant Kasak began his work with the Wyckoff Police Department as a dispatcher in 2004, shortly after receiving his degree in crime, law, and justice at Penn State University. He had previously graduated from Bergen Catholic High School in Paramus. Kasak was appointed a probationary police officer and graduated from the Bergen County Police Academy in 2006. Police Chief Benjamin Fox and Township Committeeman Kevin Rooney, head of the Police Committee, concurred in the wisdom of having officer candidates acquire knowledge of the township and per- O’Connor, Zeller win WEA’s third annual scholarship Scott Zeller and Erin O’Connor, recipients of the 2013 WEA Scholarship The Wyckoff Education Association, a professional organization comprised of faculty and staff from the Wyckoff Public Schools, has named Erin O’Connor and Scott Zeller as the recipients of the WEA’s third annual scholarship for graduating high school seniors. Each winner received a plaque and a $1,500 scholarship. O’Connor, an alumna of Dater School and Ramsey High School, is the daughter of WEA member Eileen O’Connor, an instructional aide at Sicomac School. The honoree is a member of the National Honor Society. She has served as student chair of the Relay for Life at Ramsey High School, was co-captain of the varsity field hockey team, and has been active with her church youth group. She has performed in many (continued on page 19) sonal experience as dispatchers. “We’ve got an excellent police department here,” Chief Fox said. “I’m very proud of the work that each of the officers does. My compliments to Sergeant Kasak.” Before his promotion, Kasak was the officer in charge of the school crossing guards and the officer in charge of the police department vehicle maintenance and equipment program. He is also a certified field training officer for new recruits and sometimes serves in the bicycle patrol unit. He will be assigned as a patrol sergeant in charge of a squad of patrolmen. Sergeant Kasak resides in Waldwick with his wife Ashley, their eight-month-old daughter Kendall, and their two-year-old son Kellan.
