This free event will feature “Life of Pi.” (Rain date: July 18.) Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, “Life of Pi” tells the story of a young man who survives a disaster at sea and is hurled into an epic journey of adventure while forming a connection with a fearsome Bengal tiger. The movie is rated PG. The field will be open at 8 p.m. and the movie will begin at 8:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, coolers, and snacks. Lonegan to address Tea Party Republican U.S. Senate candidate Steve Lonegan will address the Franklin Lakes Tea Party on Tuesday, July 16. The event will be held in the Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps Building on Bender Court. Lonegan is the former mayor of Bogota and the former New Jersey executive director of Americans for Prosperity. A question and answer session will follow. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and refreshments will be served. A donation of $25 is suggested. Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, July 23 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the music room at the Franklin Lakes Middle School at 755 Franklin Avenue. Library hosts children’s programs The Friends of the Franklin Lakes Public Library recently announced two programs for young children, beginning with those who will be entering kindergarten this fall. On Aug. 13, children entering kindergarten and up are invited to The Dirtmeister: Rock Around the Block at 11 a.m. Attendees will have a wild look at rocks, minerals, fossils, and dirt in this interactive program full of science fun. Temple presents early TV programs Temple Emanuel of North Jersey will present a screening of an episode of “The Burns and Allen Show” on Sunday, July 21 at 2 p.m. The 1954 show features Gracie Allen, the seemingly absent-minded woman who always had the last word, and her on-screen and real-life husband, George Burns. The event will also feature a 1949 episode of “Captain Video” and an episode of “The Goldbergs” from 1955. The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Library to present ‘Henry V’ The Franklin Lakes Public Library will present an abridged version of William Shakespeare’s “Henry V” on July 22 at 7 p.m. This live performance by the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s Next Stage eNSemble concerns the coming of age story of a new king and his nation. The young and inexperienced Henry of England, threatened by rebellious nobles and the military might of France, leads a ragtag band of soldiers in a desperate attempt to save his throne and consolidate his power. Shakespeare’s play is a stirring commentary on patriotism, courage, and the qualities that make a great leader and nation. The Little Rockers Band will be bringing their brand of “Kindie Rock” to the library on July 17 and Aug. 7 at 2:30 p.m. Children and parents are invited to this high-energy, interactive concert. On July 18, the Tanglewood Marionettes will present “The Fairy Circus” at 7 p.m. Over 20 handcrafted mario- nettes will dance, play instruments, juggle, and fly through the air, all to music by favorite composers. Children of all ages are invited to “Travel Down Under” on July 30. “Digeridoo: Down Under” will begin at 3:30 p.m. This program features music, culture, comedy, and reading motivation in a high-energy show. On July 23, the library will host a “Pajama Party with Yosi” at 6:45 p.m. Award-winning children’s recording artist Yosi will rock the house with dancing, singing, and a cozy bedtime story. At 2:23 p.m. on June 14, the Stop & Shop Supermarket on Franklin Avenue reported that they had a female shoplifter in custody. A 43-year-old North Haledon woman was arrested and charged with shoplifting approximately $150. The woman was processed and released pending a future court hearing in municipal court. Officers Mark McCombs and William Zangara investigated. A June 28 motor vehicle stop on Blue Hill Terrace led to the arrest of a 21-year-old Sloatsburg, New York man. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of heroin, under the influence of heroin, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, obstructing traffic, and reckless driving. Officers McCombs and Denny Knubel investigated. On July 9, a Mohican Lane resident reported that between July 4 and 9 unknown persons had burglarized the home. Entry was gained through the front door, which may inadvertently have been left unlocked. The master bedroom and closet were the primary focus of attack. Dresser drawers had been opened and contents removed. An inventory of missing items is being compiled by the victims. Detective Pacelli and Officers Robert Smith and Francis O’Brien investigated.
