received awards for having the best specialty cookies, cheesecake, crumb bun, and challah. Owners Steven and Aimee do all their own baking at the shop, which is based at 397 Franklin Avenue. The creative duo makes breads, pies, cookies, filled cupcakes, and custom cakes for all occasions. Clients are invited to bring a photo and leave the rest to the pros, who use the finest ingredients. “Wyckoff has its own cake artist,” Aimee quips, referring to Steven, the head baker and decorator. Katie and Amresa Steven’s work has captured the attention of one of the “Housewives of New Jersey,” who has returned several times. Sugarflake’s cakes have been prominently featured on this popular reality show. Sugarflake Bakery also makes ice cream-filled cakes, sundaes, and shakes -- but cookies are a specialty. Aimee says people love to give Sugarflake’s cookies as event favors. Sugarflake Bakery also offers gluten-free desserts, including cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and brownies. These items are available by order. Steven grew up in a bakery family and learned at his father’s knee. He has been involved in the business since he was just 12. In 1998, he opened Sugarflake’s original location in Westwood. A second location in Fair Lawn opened soon afterward. When the opportunity came up to open another location, Aimee and Steven chose Wyckoff. “We knew we could do well here,” Aimee explains. “This town appreciates a bakery.” Visit Sugarflake from 7 to 6 on Monday, 7 to 7 Tuesday through Saturday, and 7 to 5 on Sunday. Call (201) 485-8413 or visit sugarflakebakeshop.com. “Like” Sugarflake on Facebook for exclusive deals just for Facebook fans.

rothers Anthony and Martin DeLorenzo have been business partners for 18 years. The two launched Woodside Landscaping nearly two decades ago, and followed up with Woodside Pools 12 years ago. “We started with lawn maintenance, ventured into different areas, and added different specialists,” Anthony says of his companies’ experienced staff members. Woodside Landscaping provides complete landscaping and hardscaping services, and all materials are hand selected to ensure quality results. The company’s trained professionals will design and install paver walks, patios, retaining walls, and more. They are also skilled in all aspects of masonry. Both businesses are run by the owners, who remain hands on in terms of sales and project management. Anthony says the business is the ideal size, as it is large enough to handle complex projects, and small enough to maintain friendly relationAnthony DeLorenzo ships with customers. Anthony adds that the benefit of having the two related businesses is that customers who have a pool installed eventually need a landscaper. He provides the convenience of both landscaping and pool services, without having to hire another contractor. Woodside Pools offers custom pool installations, renovations, and general pool service. The company also installs water features, Jacuzzis, waterfalls, and ponds, while Woodside Landscaping’s custom work completes the overall effect. This spring, Anthony and Martin will open a display center at Strawberry Blossom, a nursery center located on Route 23 North in Wayne. fter launching Propel Physical Therapy & Athletic Performance in Boonton in 2009, Dr. William Bottino decided to expand his successful enterprise by opening a second location in Wyckoff last year. Dr. Bottino and his staff members take pride in continually working with the same patient from start to finish, so each Propel professional spends the maximum amount of one-on-one time with every patient. “When you stick with the same person throughout the whole process, you build a good relationship with that person, and can better focus on his or her needs,” the doctor adds. Dr. Bottino points out that direct access is now the law. In short, that means patients are free to visit Propel without a referral or a prescription. Because Propel’s professionals are trained in differential diagnosis, they are aware that a physical issue, such as back pain, may actually be an organ problem presenting as back pain, Dr. Bottino notes. He and his staff work closely with local physicians and orthopedic surgeons to help provide the best care for their patients. Propel can help patients with general sports injuries; individuals who have undergone hip or knee replacement surgery or elbow surgery; those with chronic back pain, neuropathy, balance deficits, gait problems and a host of other issues. The doctor became interested in health care as a young athlete. After he injured his knee, Dr. Bottino’s surgeon sent him to a physical therapist. While working with the therapist, he realized the importance of being able to get back to the activities he enjoys. He later graduated from the University of Delaware and received his doctorate in physical therapy from Widener University. Before he opened Propel’s original location, he worked at Morristown Memorial Hospital and at a pri-

When he decided to go out on his own, he brought with him the best elements of all of his previous experiences in the field. “Propel is not a conglomerate,” he stresses. “We are privately-owned so we are flexible with our patients.” Propel Physical Therapy & Athletic Performance is located at 577 Goffle Road (in the strip mall near Haw-
thorne Chevrolet). The location includes ample parking with easy access to the building. Propel accepts most major insurance and Medicare. Hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Call (201) 857-5910 or visit propelptap.com for more information.
