Spring will glitter at Devon Fine Jewelry ancy Schuring, owner of Devon Fine Jewelry, recently returned from a spectacular sojourn in Tanzania and Kenya, where she purchased rough gems from local mines. Nancy’s newest finds will enhance Devon’s current offerings – and the store already carries the area’s largest selection of colored gemstones. Her selections include garnets in orange and red, zircons in pastel blues and mauves, and tourmalines in greens and golds. These gems will be cut by Roger Dery, a top American gem cutter and winner of the prestigious Spectrum Award. Dery will appear at Devon when the gems become available for sale later this spring. While in Africa, Nancy visited the lapidary school there Nancy Schuring and Julie that is supported by Nancy’s charitable organization, the Devon Foundation. The Foundation provides scholarships for students in Africa, including women, who are learning the art of gem cutting. “While in Tanzania, it was thrilling to visit the Arusha Vocational School and meet two of our scholarship recipients,” Nancy says. One of the women has already been hired as a professional gem cutter. In addition to the upcoming African gem event, this spring will feature visits by Patricia Daunis and Paula Crevoshay. Both of these jewelry designers are returning by popular demand. Daunis creates works in silver and gold that are perfect for mounting customers’ own gemstones. Crevoshay is known for her passion for color and her feminine, magical sense of design. For more information about these events, call (201) 848-8489 or visit www. devonfinejewelry.com.
