The Borough of Midland Park has brought back in-house the CFO position by appointing Laurie O’Hanlon to the job earlier this month. She received the official state certification as a municipal financial officer last month. Since the retirement of Borough Administrator Michelle Dugan, who also served as the CFO, two years ago, the official job was being provided by the Borough of Glen Rock through an interlocal services agreement. O’Hanlon said her new position fits in perfectly with her selected career path. “The job is challenging. I love working with numbers, so although the job is sometimes stressful, it’s no problem when you are doing something you like,” she said. O’Hanlon added that dealing one-on-one with residents is a bonus. She

said that in a small town such as Midland Park she gets to interact with residents on a daily basis, even if it is not part of her job description. O’Hanlon started working in the town’s finance department in 2007 after 15 years as an accounting/payroll supervisor for Enterprise Rent-a-Car, because she wanted to get into municipal finance. She handles payroll, pays bills, assists with the formulation of the municipal budget for the council, and deals with employee benefits. She also serves as the part-time bookkeeper for the public library. A graduate of Emerson High School and St. Thomas Aquinas College with a degree in business administration, O’Hanlon has been a Midland Park resident for 11 years.
Happy gathering
Members of the Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary gathered recently for the organization’s biannual social, held at Cafe 37 in Ridgewood. The group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at Faith Reformed Church in Midland Park.
