January 23, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 23 Park Windmill Register for preschool program The Midland Park School District is accepting applications for the 2013-14 general education integrated preschool program housed at Godwin School. This program for three- and four-year-olds incorporates the education of special education children with that of general education preschoolers, following general education curriculum standards. To be eligible, a general education child must be three or four on or before Oct. 1, 2013. Children will attend from 8:30 to 11 a.m. or from 12:20 to 2:50 p.m. five half-days a week in accordance with the Midland Park school calendar. Current students will have priority for program registration. Students will be assigned to either the morning or afternoon session at the discretion of the district. Parents will be responsible for transportation. The annual tuition for the program is $2,700, either paid in full no later than Sept. 1, 2013 or in two installments with a $25 fee, due Sept. 1 and Jan. 1. Those registering students will need to provide a birth certificate, copy of immunizations, and proof of residency. This program is open to Midland Park residents only. Church hosts financial seminar The deacons of Midland Park Christian Reformed Church will present a financial management seminar on Saturday, Feb. 2. The program will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will focus on biblical financial management. Certified Financial Planner Ken Johnson will lead the seminar. His topics include The Big Picture, Dedicating it All to God, Planning Your Spending, Giving as an Act of Worship, Saving and Investing, God’s Solution to Debt, and Enjoying What God has Given Us. Johnson has spent over 30 years in the financial services sector, and specializes in faith-based financial planning and advice. The cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple. Lions seek contributions The Midland Park Lions Club is seeking donations to support its sight-based and community charities. The club welcomes donations of any amount to assist with the following organizations and projects: the Association of Blind Athletes, Camp Marcella for Blind Children, eyesight and hearing tests on Community Day, equipment for the Midland Park Ambulance Corps, and the Midland Park Fire Department, food gift certificates distributed through local churches, large print books for the Midland Park Library, the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Seeing Eye of Morristown, Lions Eye Bank, Saint Joseph’s School for the Blind, and scholarships for Midland Park residents. Ministry seeks ‘pillowcase’ dressmakers On Jan. 23, the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church will present a demonstration on making pillowcase dresses for its Africa ministry. The program will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Friendship Hall, 183 Godwin Avenue. The church’s ministry is “changing lives one little dress at time” by making these dresses for children in Africa. The demonstration includes four easy steps and requires only a new pillowcase, elastic for casing, bias tape, and thread. Directions will be provided for each person to take home. Donations of $2 are requested for shipping. The ministry will announce a date in February for a potluck dinner and a display of the dresses destined for the children in Africa. Sociologist to address bullying Dr. Paula Rodriguez-Rust, a sociologist and diversity educator, will offer a presentation about harassment, intimidation, and bullying. The program will be held Jan. 24 in Memorial Hall at Midland Park High School, 250 Prospect Street. The speaker will present the results of the 2011 and 2012 school climate surveys from students in grades two through 12, and will review the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Law. The program will run from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and all are invited. Lions host Corn Stalk Broom Sale After a long absence, the Midland Park Lions Club’s Corn Stalk Broom Sale has returned. Thrift shop opens for winter season The Community Thrift Shop, located in the lower part of the Midland Park Shopping Center on Godwin Avenue, is open for the winter season. Store hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a. m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and the first Saturday of each month are receiving days only. Receiving hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sixty member organizations benefit from the shop’s sales, including churches from several denominations in this area and other businesses. Residents encouraged to register for Swift 911 The Midland Park Office of Emergency Management reminds residents with Optimum, Vonage, and other nonVerizon phone services that the county’s new Reverse 911 vendor may not have their phone listing. As a result, those residents may not receive emergency messages. Residents with non-Verizon phones should register their numbers at bcoem.org under the “SwiftReach” category.
