Fyke announces events Allendale author Jim Wright will present a slide show and talk about his latest book, “The Nature of the Meadowlands,” at the Jan. 25 meeting of the Fyke Nature Association. The group meets at 8 p.m. at the Allendale Municipal Building, 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. Wright’s 128-page book illuminates the region’s natural and unnatural history – from its darkest days a half-century ago to its environmental revival. His program offers highlights from the book, which combines striking nature photography with rare archival images. Wright has worked for the Meadowlands Commission since 2008 and is currently marsh warden of the Celery Farm Natural Area. On Feb. 9, Fyke will host a trip to the Teatown Hudson River Eaglefest at Croton Pont Park in Croton-on-Hudson, New York. (Snow date: Feb. 10.) EnCHANTments program slated Professional sopranos Bonnie Laub and Jenn Hommez, baritone Matt Hommez, clarinetist Eunbee Cho, and Spence Von Summer (as Snoopy) will be featured in a onehour EnCHANTments program on Sunday, Jan. 27. The 4 p.m. performance will be held at Highlands Presbyterian Church located at 270 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. Produced and directed by Highlands Music Director Penny Martin Heidt, EnCHANTments will explore favorite and familiar rhymes. The program is suitable for children and adults and is open to the public. A free will offering will be taken in support of the Center for Food Action. Attendees are also invited to bring non perishable canned goods. Refreshments will be served following the event. Assemblyman hosts Super Bowl Party Assemblyman Dave Russo will host a Super Bowl Party on Feb. 3. The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Brownstone located at 351 West Broadway in Paterson. BVMI hosts Fine Art Benefit The Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative, Inc. will host an Afternoon of Fine Art on Saturday, Jan. 26. The event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Piermont Fine Arts Gallery, 218 Ash Street in Piermont, New York. (Snow date: Jan. 27.)
Members of the Atlantic Stewardship Bank Administrative Team recently served lunch to the clients of OASIS: A Haven for Women and Children, located in Paterson. This was done in conjunction the Lunches with Love meal sponsorship program OASIS conducted during the holiday season. Instead of the usual holiday gift exchange, the ASB Administrative Team joined together to make a donation to the Lunches with Love Program. A donation of $139 provides an entire day of meals for the women and children at OASIS. As part of the program, OASIS commemorates the donation with signage throughout the dining room, including table signs, a banner, and a door poster that acknowledges the contribution. The gallery will feature 24 artists who comprise the Piermont Fine Arts Gallery Collective. Thirty-five percent of the proceeds from all art sales during the show will benefit BVMI. The afternoon will feature wine and hors d’oeuvres. Admission is $15 and may be paid at the door or by check made payable to BVMI-Art Show, and mailed to 241 Moore Street, Suite 101, Hackensack, NJ 07601. The mission of BVMI is to provide free primary medical care and, where possible, referrals to specialty care for working, low-income Bergen County residents who have no health insurance. Auditions called for ‘Willy Wonka’ Auditions for the Wyckoff Family Y’s spring production of Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka” will be held Jan. 24 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Jan. 26 from 1 to 6 p.m. No appointments are necessary. Actors, singers, and dancers are needed.
Participants should bring a photo and resume and prepare a number from the show or bring sheet music for a particular song. Those who attend the audition will be (continued on page 22)
