Curbside recycling collection goes weekly Wyckoff’s curbside recycling collection will now be available weekly, rather than every other week. Recyclable collections for Districts 2, 3, 6, and 7 will be available on Mondays. Districts 1, 4, 5, and 8 will have collection service on Tuesdays. Christmas tree collection under way The Wyckoff Department of Public Works reminds township residents to place their Christmas trees at the curb for collection. The final round for Christmas tree pickup is now in progress. Christmas trees placed at the curb must be free of all ornaments, tree stands, tinsel, and other decorations. The trees should not be wrapped in plastic nor placed in plastic bags. After the conclusion of the special collection period, residents must bring trees to the recycling center at 475 West Main Street. Nursery school holds Open House Grace Nursery School, located at 555 Russell Avenue in Wyckoff, invites parents of prospective students to visit during the month of January. Throughout the month, the school will hold a daily Open House from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors may tour the school, visit the classrooms, and receive information about the school’s many programs. Registration for the 2013-2014 school year is in progress. Church members, current students, former students’ families, and

Township provides text messages The Wyckoff Police Department and Wyckoff Office of Emergency Management have begun using text messaging to provide important and timely information in emergencies. Residents are welcome to sign up for the service at www.nixle.com. This new service will be used in addition to Wyckoff’s two other emergency notification programs: Reverse 911 telephone calls and e-mail messages from the township’s ”Be Storm Informed” program. Residents are urged to sign up for all three notification programs to obtain important and timely information during emergencies when electric power may be interrupted. Blood pressure screening available The Wyckoff Board of Health will offer a blood pressure program on Jan. 22. The program will be held between noon and 2 p.m. in the Monroe Room at the Wyckoff Library, which is located at 200 Woodland Avenue. A registered nurse conducts the screenings. Appointments are not necessary. On Feb. 12, the board of health will present a Healthy Heart Month program from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Blood pressure will not be taken during this program. The 9:30 a.m. meeting will be held at the James A. McFaul Environmental Center at 150 Cres-
cent Avenue in Wyckoff. Janet Schulz will discuss the creative possibilities of art and water in the garden as she presents “This and That in the Garden.” She will highlight artistic focal points for year-round interest and structure. Schulz, who is president of the Wyckoff Garden Club, has served on the board of the Garden Club of New Jersey. Her garden has been featured in the New York Times and is frequently opened for public viewing through the Garden Conservancy. All are welcome. Library holds college prep night The Wyckoff Public Library will hold a College Night on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. The program will include information on high school preparation, college selection, and strategies for the application process. Chamber of Commerce encourages membership renewals The Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce reminds current members that it is time to renew their memberships. The renewal fee is $110 if received before Jan. 30, 2013. After that date, the cost will be $135. Chamber members enjoy monthly breakfast meetings, networking opportunities, inclusion on the Chamber website, and participation in the organization’s seasonal events. New members are welcome. Register for preschool program The Wyckoff School District is accept-
ing applications for the 2013-14 general education preschool program housed at Sicomac School. Three- and four-year-olds who reside in Wyckoff may attend. The integrated preschool program incorporates the education of special education children with general education preschoolers, and follows general education curriculum standards. In order to be eligible, a general education child must be three or four years old on or before Oct. 1, 2013. Students will be screened for admission into the program. Three- and four-year-olds generally attend from 8:40 to 11:30 a.m., and four- and fiveyear-olds attend from 12:30 to 3:20 p.m. The program is five half-days a week in accordance with the Wyckoff school calendar. Parents will be responsible for transportation. All students will be registered at the time of entry. Each parent or guardian is required to bring the child’s birth certificate, a copy of the child’s immunization record, and proof of residency. Applications may be obtained in the main offices at Coolidge, Lincoln, Sicomac, and Washington schools. An application form is also available at www.wyckoffps. org. The high school baseball and soccer fields are in good shape, he said, but could use fertilizing. Those fields were totally refurbished and irrigated with grants acquired by the borough a few years ago, since they are used extensively by the sports organizations. School teams also use the Johnny Vander Meer field and Veterans Field, which belong to the town, for their programs.
