Composer to guest conduct The Midland Park High School Band Program will present its Winter Concert at the high school on Jan. 17. The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall, and will feature a special appearance by composer Patrick Burns. Burns will be on hand to guest conduct three of his works. Performers will include the high school wind ensemble, the middle school concert band, and the high school percussion ensemble. The night will culminate with a group performance. Alliance and PTA present ‘15-Minute Child Break’ The Midland Park Alliance and the Midland Park Elementary Schools PTA will host the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey’s 15-Minute Child Break program on Jan. 17. This one-hour program will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Highland School gym at 31 Highland Avenue. The 15-Minute Child Break is a multimedia presentation that provides information on the importance of the parent or caregiver’s role in substance abuse prevention. Discussions will include how to talk to children about drugs, signs of use and abuse, and current terminology and trends. Library trustees to meet The Midland Park Library Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. on Jan. 17. The session will be held at the Midland Park Library, 250 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park. Residents encouraged to register for Swift 911 The Midland Park Office of Emergency Management reminds residents with Optimum, Vonage, and other non-Verizon phone services that the county’s new Reverse 911 vendor may not have their phone listing. As a result, those residents may not receive emergency messages. Residents with nonVerizon phones should register their numbers at bcoem.org under the “SwiftReach” category. Thrift shop holds sale The Community Thrift Shop, located in the lower part of the Midland Park Shopping Center on Godwin Avenue, is holding a sale. Call (201) 652-7661 for further information. John Meeks and Eric Goodell have been appointed to serve on the Midland Park Board of Recreation, replacing Dave Lancaster and Heather Lightbody. Lancaster chose not to seek reappointment; Lightbody resigned with one year left on her term. Marinne Vanelli was reappointed to the board. Michael Rau, Stephanie Pantale and Jeffrey Bulick were reappointed to the planning board. Mayor Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan and Council President Nancy Peet will also serve. Board has new members Richard Kroitsch, David Zuidema and Dan Brennan were reappointed to the board of adjustment, and Lena Padovano was named to the Library Board, along with Lorraine DeLuca, who will serve as the mayor’s representative. Anne Polhemus, Craig Rush, Susan Aponte, Chief Mike Marra, Maryalice Hagerty, Jane Burke, Sgt. Greg Kasbarian, Diane Moe, Lori Palladino and Recreation Director Kathy LaMonte will serve on the Municipal Alliance Committee, along with the mayor. New patrolman sworn in Midland Mayor Patrick “Bud’ O’Hagan, right, swears in Michael Marcellari as a new probationary patrolman to the 14 member Midland Police Department, as Marcellari’s mother, Teri, and father, Rich, look on. He replaces Ptl. Brendan Burke, who resigned to take a similar position in Hawthorne. Marcellari is now attending the Bergen County Police Academy.
