Don Bosco Prep’s Chapel Concerts is holding its third Young Artists’ Scholarship Competition to celebrate, recognize, and reward the talent, commitment, and discipline of young performers. This competition offers high school musicians an opportunity to perform during the 2012-13 Season of Don Bosco Prep’s Chapel Concerts. The first place winner will also receive a $1,000 in scholarship money to be used toward music education. The Young Artists’ Scholarship Competition is open to United Stated citizens and legal non-citizens who are fulltime high school students, reside in New Jersey, and show proficiency in vocal or instrumental music. Solo artists and ensembles performing in all styles of music will be considered. Interested participants are asked to submit an application with a preliminary audition DVD by Jan. 31. Twentyfive finalists will be selected to audition live and will be notified by mail by Feb. 28. Final auditions will be held March 9 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Applicants will be asked to perform the same repertoire submitted for the preliminary round. Applicants will be judged by a panel of experts on talent, technique, musicianship, skill, interpretation, presentation, and presence. Competitors compete against a standard of excellence, rather than against each other. Performers should bring their own accompanist.
