Meetings are open to the public. Yoga Night offered Dr. Dawn Di Muro will offer yoga for adults and teens on Feb. 26. The program will be held at 7 p.m. in the DePhillips Center at 50 Dairy Street. Billiards benefit set for Mazurek Pool Time Billiards in Midland Park will host a Feb. 23 fundraiser to benefit Elaine Mejury Mazurek, who is battling cancer. The fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. Supporters are invited to play unlimited billiards for $25, based on table availability. There will be a billiards tournament at 8 p.m. The entrance fee is $20 and sign up will close at 7:30 p.m. Mazurek grew up in Midland Park, attended the borough’s public schools, and was a member of the Midland Park softball, soccer, and basketball teams. She continued to play throughout college. Mazurek is now married and has a young daughter. Currently, she is engaged in a two front battle with cancer with the addition of brain cancer to her original diagnosis of breast cancer. Baked goods and beverages will be for sale during the fundraiser. The event is BYOB. Donations may be made payable to Pool Time Billiards or Elaine Mejury Mazurek. Spring registration extended The Midland Park Baseball Association has extended its registration for the spring 2013 recreation season through Feb. 28. Men’s basketball league forming On Feb. 26 at 8 p.m., Midland Park Continuing Education will hold a meeting for its Over 21 Men’s Basketball League. The league will play at Midland Park High School beginning March 5. The fee is $795 for a team of up to 10 players. A $200 deposit is required upon registration. The registration cost includes T-shirts, referee fees, timer fees, schedules, and awards. A team gift card to Allendale Bar & Grill will be awarded to the winning team. Filing deadline for board candidates nears Three seats will be available on the Midland Park Board of Education in this year’s school election. The terms for school board members Brian McCourt, Sandra Criscenzo, Rich Formicola will expire this year. This will result in about 3,660 trucks trips along Pulis Avenue to Franklin Avenue to Summit Avenue and onto Route 208. He said the blasting would last about a month and it would then take three to four months to move the blasted rock off site. The water tank project also involves the installation of a 24-inch diameter pipe up Shadow Ridge Road to the site of the tank, and construction of a pumping station on that site. The plans indicate that the circular tank will be about 200 feet in diameter and will be partially below ground with a domed roof. The site will be fenced, and there will be remote mounted cameras to observe the site. No audible alarms or flashing lights have been proposed. A gate to site will be located on the easement north of the riding center access road, but the tank will not inhibit or change the access to the riding center. The proposed water storage tank facility is also expected to improve system-wide pressure on summer mornings when many Franklin Lakes homes have lawn sprinklers running. In addition, this new tank is expected to help United Water improve water service throughout the entire northwest Bergen County area. The existing water tank on Cottonwood Drive, which can hold up to 1.5 million gallons of water, will operate in harmony with the new tank to be located in the park, Henning said.
