George I. Dykstra of Pompton Lakes died Feb. 3. He was 91. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and he earned a master’s degree in education at the University of Illinois in 1950. He taught science for 11 years in Springfield, Pequannock, and Glen Rock schools. Before retiring in 1984, he was the principal at Wesley D. Tisdale School in Ramsey for 24 years. He was a member of Pompton Reformed Church for over 50 years. He is survived by his children Tom Dykstra of Rochester, Michigan and Jill Laux of Clifton, two grandchildren, his twin brother Gerald of Primghar, Iowa, and his friend Betty Artsma of Franklin Lakes. He was predeceased by his siblings Frances Dykstra, Harold Dykstra, and Carolyn Kohlman. Arrangements were made by Richards Funeral Home in Riverdale. Before retiring, she was a teacher at the Brookside School in Allendale for 25 years. She was a member of the Brownstone Quilters, Warwick Quilters, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and the Midland Park Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband Edward, her son Edward H. of Forked River, her daughter Marianne Van Houten of Rock Tavern, New York, five grandchildren, and her siblings Harry and Carol. Originally from Gloucester, Massachusetts, he still holds the all-time career scoring record for the Gloucester High School basketball team, averaging 36 points per game. He achieved high school All-American status in 1961. He played for University of Miami in Florida, graduating in 1967. He was the executive vice president at Maxell Corporation of America, where he was a corporate officer and served on the board of directors. He received the 1994 Human Relations Award from the American Jewish Committee. He was selected by industry peers to Best of ’98 Dealerscope Hall of Fame, and received the Patricia Rienzi Legacy Award from the National Consumer Technology Industry Anti-Defamation League in 2007. He sat on the Consumer Electronics Association’s Board of Industry Leaders from 2007 to 2010. He is survived by his wife Jeanne (nee Mattie), his son Julian of New York City, and his brother David of Port Ritchie, Florida. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. He was the owner of Clixes in Wyckoff. He was a member of Faith Community Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff, and a member of the Baseball and Softball Association in Hawthorne. He is survived by his wife Lynn (nee Dries) Pruiksma of Hawthorne, his children David, Heather, and Steven Pruiksma, and his siblings Robert Pruiksma and Carole Arnoldi. She had been a registered nurse with the Visiting Nurses of New York for many years, and was a participant in various volunteer activities in Wyckoff. She was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth R.C. Church in Wyckoff for over 50 years, where she was member of the Rosary Society. She is survived by her children Molly Reilly, Virginia Murphy, Elizabeth Fisher, Patricia Ryan, Michael Ryan, Margaret McDonnell, and James J. Ryan III, 19 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased
by her husband James J. Ryan, and her grandson Seamus McDonnell. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Josephine “Jo” Paine, nee Arguelles, of Franklin Lakes died Feb. 3. She was 78. She attended Hunter College in the 1950s and graduated from Ramapo College in 1982 with a degree in history. She started a volleyball league for women in Franklin Lakes and was involved for many years with the Valley Hospital Bridge Group. She is survived by her husband Bob Paine, her children Linda Maley of Mahwah, Lisa Keyser of Mahwah, Robert Paine of Fort Lee, and Gregg Paine of New York City, five grandchildren, and her brother Peter Arguelles of Palm Springs, California. Arrangements were made by Eden Memorial Chapels in Fort Lee. William Edgar Strakosch of Falmouth, Massachusetts, formerly of Ho-Ho-Kus, Ridgewood, and Cheshire, Connecticut, died Jan. 18. He was 88. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Willard Elementary School and graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1943. He worked for Yegan Associates during the ‘50s and into the early ‘60s. He purchased and operated Countryside Volkswagen and Lincoln Mercury in Torrington, Connecticut. In 1972, he became the owner of WES Cadillac Oldsmobile in Waterbury, Connecticut. He owned and operated this business until he retired in 2002. He was named president of the Tri-State Cadillac Advertising Group, and held this position for a number of years. He is survived by his children William Strakosch of Middlebury, Connecticut, Nancy Strakosch-Gross from Grandview-on-Hudson, New York, and Amy Strakosch-Moniz from Sandwich, Massachusetts, and eight grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Richard Vaccari of Franklin Lakes, her children Christopher, Erica, and Mariana Vaccari all of Franklin Lakes, and her siblings Gary Wetterau of Mahwah and Wendy Murch of Seaford, New York.
