Speaker to discuss ‘Edible Weeds’ Tama Matsuoka will present “Edible Weeds” to the Wyckoff Area Garden Club on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The group will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the James A. McFaul Environmental Center at 150 Crescent Avenue in Wyckoff. Author of “Foraged Flavor,” Matsuoka will discuss the culinary and nutritional value of many plants that, until now, have been dismissed and discarded as worthless weeds. Matsuoka is the forager for a New York City restaurant. In 2007, she received the New Jersey Forest Service Steward of the Year Award. All are welcome. Temple schedules Movie Night Temple Beth Rishon invites the community to laugh away the winter blues with the temple’s free double feature Movie Night on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. Two humorous and touching documentaries will be featured: “The Gefilte Fish Chronicles” and “Mahjongg: The Tiles That Bind.” Refreshments and popcorn will be served. WEF announces Spring Fling The Wyckoff Education Foundation will host its annual Spring Fling Dinner/Dance on Friday, March 15 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Macaluso’s in Hawthorne. This year’s event will feature an “Unmask the Future” theme, and will highlight one of New Jersey’s premier bands, Trippin’ Carla. Spring Fling will include a buffet dinner, open bar, door prizes, and special auctions. In past two years, the WEF has purchased 250 iPads for use in the K-8 classrooms throughout the district. Currently, the WEF is working on funding to support the science, technology, engineering, and math initiatives in the Wyckoff schools. Tickets are $95 per person. To register or make a

The Wyckoff Education Foundation is a non-profit organization created in 1990 in response to declining government funding of schools. WEF fundraisers directly benefit more than 2,300 Wyckoff students in the four elementary schools and the Eisenhower Middle School. Since its inception, the foundation has raised $1.3 million and has awarded the funds through grants to the Wyckoff Board of Education. Beth Rishon hosts Cabaret Night Temple Beth Rishon invites the community to an evening of cabaret style music on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature classical music, selections from the Broadway stage and opera, contemporary compositions, jazz, classic rock, Jewish and American folk music, and a special tap dancing performance by the Syncopated Seniors Tap Dance Troupe. The temple is located at 585 Russell Avenue. Wyckoff Y sets 18th Annual Ladies Night The Wyckoff Y’s 18th Annual Ladies Night will be held at Seasons in Washington Township at 6:30 p.m. on March 7. This event will include great food, music, karaoke, dancing, and baskets filled with prizes. The cost is $60 per person and includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner, wine, beer, and dessert. All proceeds will directly benefit the Y’s scholarship fund. The Y is also in need of donations of prizes to be

Margaret Roach to speak Margaret Roach, author, nationally acclaimed blogger, first horticultural editor for Martha Stewart’s “Living,” and former garden editor for “Newsday,” will present “Gardening 365 Days a Year” on April 17. This program will be held at the Wyckoff Reformed Church located at 580 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The doors will open at 10 a.m. and the program will begin at 11 a.m. This event will include a book signing, refreshments, and a Spring Plant Sale featuring a tote ‘n go combo. Support program available The Christian Health Care Adult Day Services at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff will hold a Caregiver Support Group at noon Tuesday, Feb. 5. The meeting is open to the public and no reservations are necessary. The meeting will be held at CHCC located at 301 Sicomac Avenue in Wyckoff. Follow the signs for Building 1, Human Resources. The meeting will be held in the Building 1 allpurpose room. The group provides support to people who are caring for a loved one who is suffering from dementia and other medical problems relating to aging. Meetings are facilitated by Kerri Sherer, LSW. Information about area social services will be available, and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions, vent their feelings, and share knowledge with others who are facing similar issues.
