April 24, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 15 Wyckoff Wanderings Register for spring tennis lessons Wyckoff Recreation and Parks will sponsor its Spring Tennis Learning Program for Wyckoff students in kindergarten through grade 12 and adults. The program will be directed by Tennis Dynamics under the guidance of Bill Bess. Two clinics will be presented this spring. One will be held on Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. beginning April 26, and another will be held Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. beginning April 27. Residents may sign up for one or both of these sessions depending on availability. Classes will run for five consecutive Fridays and Saturdays, skipping the Memorial Day Weekend, for one hour each. The program will be held at the Memorial Tennis Courts at the end of Woodland Avenue in Wyckoff. The cost of each program is $85. Registrations will be accepted at the recreation office weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 25. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited. For details, call (201) 891-3350. Arbor Day ceremony announced The Wyckoff Shade Tree Commission and the Wyckoff Environmental Commission invite the community to the Annual Arbor Day Ceremony on Saturday, April 27. The event will be held at Russell Farms Community Park on Russell Avenue beginning at 9 a.m. The Shade Tree Commission has again achieved the Tree City USA designation for Wyckoff. The commission has been replanting public places in the township, including Scott Plaza across from the Fallen Firefighter Memorial, primary roads leading to the library, Memorial Field, the downtown business center on Main Street, Wyckoff and Monroe avenues, and Zabriskie Pond Park. Residents are also encouraged to plant trees. Fire department to be honored The Wyckoff Family YMCA will be present its 10th William E. Boye Humanitarian Award to the Wyckoff Fire Department in recognition of its members’ selfless commitment of time, energy, and resources to the residents and businesses of Wyckoff. The award will be presented at the Y’s 2013 “Friends of the Y Dinner” on Wednesday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. All are invited to attend this celebra- tory, community-wide dinner, which will include special music, keynote speakers, presentations, and proclamations for the award-winning fire company. Parenting expert to speak Join the Jewish Women’s Circle for a May 1 book signing and parenting talk by author, lecturer, and parenting instructor Slovie Jungreis-Wolff. This event will be held at 7:30 p.m. at a private home in Wyckoff. In her recently published book, “Raising a Child with Soul,” Wolff takes on tough parenting issues, including disciplining with love, how to effectively communicate, diffusing tensions that arise from sibling rivalry, the inculcation of gratitude and appreciation in children, establishing priorities, and more. Wolff gives weekly classes in New York City, lectures throughout the U.S. and Canada, and writes parenting and relationship columns for Jewish publications and websites. Wyckoff to present ‘Willy Wonka’ The Wyckoff Y’s in-house theater company will stage its tenth musical production, “Willy Wonka,” the first week of May on the Carl Pfeifer Performing Arts Stage at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. A cast of over 60 local actors, singers, and dancers, will perform. This production will feature Mark Quiles of Hawthorne in the role of Willy Wonka, and Jeffrey Castellano of Ramsey in the role of Charlie. Adults and children performers from Wyckoff and neighboring communities will come together to tell this classic story under the direction of Reegan McKenzie and Tim Santos, with musical direction by Georgianna Pappas. Performances will be May 2, 3, and 4 at 7 p.m. Performances will also be held May 4 at 2 p.m. and May 5 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students ages 1321 and senior citizens, $12 for children ages 12 and under. Operation Take Back set for April 27 On April 27, the Township of Wyckoff will participate in the United States Drug Enforcement Agency’s Operation Take Back, a program that allows residents to rid their homes of unused and expired medications. Prescription and over the counter medications may be dropped off at the Wyckoff Police Department at town hall located at 340 Franklin Avenue. The event will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seniors plan events, seek members The Wyckoff Seniors meet at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Larkin House at 380 Godwin Avenue. The group has planned several events for the coming months. On May 14 the club will host a Mother’s Day celebration. The membership will celebrate the club’s 51st Anniversary with a luncheon at The Brick House, 179 Godwin Avenue in Wyckoff on May 21. The organization will host a day cruise on the Spirit of New Jersey on June 19. The Hudson River trip will include a buffet lunch.
