Lions offer scholarship The Midland Park Lions Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship. High school seniors who reside in Midland Park and plan to attend an institution of higher learning are encouraged to apply. The scholarship will be awarded based on the applications submitted at the sole discretion of the Midland Park Lions Club. Students may contact Scholarship Committee Chairman John Meeks at MPLCScholarship@yahoo.com for an application. Completed applications are due May 15. Library hosts children’s programs Registration for Spring Story Time at the Midland Park Library is still open to children ages four through six. The program meets on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. and will run through June 4. Each session runs 30 to 40 minutes and includes a story and a craft. To register, contact the children’s department at (201) 444-2390. There will be drop-in story times on May 8 and 29 at 1 p.m. Baby Time for tots six through 24 months old will be held May 22 and 29, and June 5, 12, and 19. The program includes stories, music, rhymes, and play time. Older siblings are welcome. Baby Time does not require registration. Children in grades one through four are invited to make a Mother’s Day Craft on Monday, May 6 at 4 p.m. Registration is required. The library will hold a drop-in and take home craft on Wednesday, May 22. Children may come to the library anytime from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Junior class hosts fundraiser The Midland Park High School Class of 2014 will hold its annual Midland Park Junior Class Basket Fundraiser on Saturday, June 22. The 6:30 p.m. event will be held at Midland Park High School at 250 Prospect Street. The ben-
efit will feature over 200 baskets that include items such as an iPad, sports memorabilia, and gift certificates. Tickets are $15 and include 25 prize basket tickets. Summer program grants available The Midland Park High School PTA offers summer grants to help defray some of the cost of summer academic programs. Grants are available to students who will be entering grades nine through 12 in September and have a C+ average or above. The summer program may be related to activities that the student has been involved with at MPHS, such as language, art, math, or science. Certain leadership camps may be eligible. Sports camps are not eligible. Applications are due by May 17. To obtain an application, contact the Midland Park High School Guidance Department at 250 Prospect Street. Recipe Luncheon set; sale items sought The Midland Park United Methodist Church located at 269 Godwin Avenue will host its annual Recipe Luncheon on Thursday, April 25. The event will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The cost for lunch is $8, and includes salads, main courses, and desserts. The dishes for the luncheon are made by the excellent cooks of the church. MPUMC is now seeking donations of items for its annual Spring Garage Sale set for June 1. Donations for the sale may be dropped off on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or left by the garage at any other time. Please note: The church cannot accept computers, computer parts, or TVs. For more information, call (201) 445-3787. Cell phone drive aids association The Midland Park Baseball Association is collecting old cell phones to be recycled. The association will receive 100 percent of the proceeds from Green Green Cellular, a recycler of used cell phones that clears phones of all data,
resets factory settings, or recycles the equipment for parts and metal. The initial collection point of the baseball association drive was at the borough’s Opening Day event. MPTV to mark 1,500th episode; seeks former students Good Morning Midland Park, Midland Park Television’s student morning show, will be celebrating its 1,500th episode on Wednesday, May 29. In honor of this milestone, MPTV will present a special hour-long episode that will air live on that date at 8 a.m. Former students who participated in the MPHS Broadcasting Program and are interested in appearing live on that day’s broadcast, or would like to send in a video message, are invited to contact Brian Ersalesi at bersalesi@midlandparkschools.k12.nj.us
