Road closings announced Several township roads will be closed on Saturday, April 20 to accommodate the annual Wyckoff Baseball/Softball Parade. Roads will be closed all along the parade route, which will begin at Memorial Field Complex, and travel down Woodland Avenue from the recreation office to Voorhis Avenue. The parade will continue from Voorhis Avenue to Van Houten Avenue, Van Houten to Demarest Avenue, and across the railroad tracks to Memorial Field. The parade will begin at 9:45 a.m. and conclude at 11 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution. Opening Day events set The Annual Opening Day Baseball and Softball Parade is set for Saturday, April 20. Township ballplayers and volunteer coaches will step off from Memorial Field at 10 a.m. follow Woodland Avenue to Voorhis Avenue, Van Houten Avenue to Demarest Avenue, and back to Memorial Field. Opening Day ceremonies will be held immediately after the parade. Mayor Rudy Boonstra will throw out the first pitch to begin the 2013 baseball and softball seasons. Continuing a tradition, the recreation department will sponsor a banner contest, with each of the 58 teams in the program making a banner for the parade. Prizes will be awarded to the teams judged to have the most original and unique banners. League games will begin at noon and 2 p.m. The community is invited to attend the day’s events. The recreation department’s baseball and softball program features 12 different baseball and softball leagues with close to 1,000 children participating. Operation Take Back set for April 27 On April 27, the Township of Wyckoff will participate in the United States Drug Enforcement Agency’s Operation Take Back, a program that allows residents to rid their homes of unused and expired medications. Prescription and over the counter medications may be dropped off at the Wyckoff Police Department at town hall located at 340 Franklin Avenue. The event will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Comedy Night to feature Uncle Floyd The Saint Elizabeth Knights of Columbus Council will host a Comedy Night featuring Uncle Floyd on Saturday, April 20. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall at Saint Elizabeth’s on Greenwood Avenue in Wyckoff. Admission is $25 and includes the show, beer, wine, and snacks. Learn to age gracefully Wyckoff seniors are invited to the first Wellness Initiative for Senior Education program on Wednesday, April 17. This free program will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes lessons on the aging process, staying healthy, and becoming a smarter and more empowered healthcare consumer. Lunch is included. WISE programs will feature informa-
tion on nutrition and exercise, medication use, stress management, and using practical tools to stay active and healthy. The program will be held at the Wyckoff Public Library at 200 Woodland Avenue. The WISE program is sponsored by the Wyckoff Municipal Alliance and the board of health. Upcoming program dates are: April 25, May 2, 9, 15, and 23. Chamber sponsors Photo Contest The Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce invites residents to submit photos of the township to the “Warming Thoughts of Wyckoff” photo contest. The Chamber will award gift certificates to the top three photos in the following categories: age 14 years and under; and age 15 to adult. To enter, e-mail a photo to photos@wyckoffchamber.com. Be sure to include name, address, telephone number, and age. Some entries will be selected to publication in the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce Directory. Entries must be submitted by May 15. Temple announces Mitzvah Day On April 28, Temple Beth Rishon will hold a Community-wide Yard Sale as part of its annual Mitzvah Day events. The sale will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. A large array of gently-used items will be for sale, including furniture, toys, clothes, and household items. All proceeds will benefit a program of Jewish Family Service of North Jersey that provides services to frail and homebound Holocaust survivors. Auxiliary to host program on the Rosencrantz women The Wyckoff Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host Delight Dodyk, past president of the Hermitage in Ho-HoKus, on April 23 at 10:15 a.m. Dodyk will share stories of the Rosencrantz women who lived in the 250-yearold National Historic Landmark during the 19th and 20th centuries. The program will be held after a short business meeting at the Advent Lutheran Church, 777 Wyckoff Avenue. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome. The sale, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature clothing, jewelry, household items, knickknacks, toys, shoes, and more. At 2:15 p.m., shoppers will be able to pay just $5 per filled bag. Donations for the sale will be received April 23 and 24.

Becker to discuss labyrinths New Jersey Holistic Health Services’ CEO Joachim Becker will present a May 2 discussion of the many meaningful ways to enjoy the Wyckoff Library Thinking Path. The program will be held in the library’s Shotmeyer Room at 7 p.m. The library has recently become the proud owner of a permanent medieval labyrinth on the south side of library’s grounds. Labyrinths have been used for spiritual meditation for centuries, but have also gained popularity as tools for mind/body healing and relaxation in recent years. Register for nursery school’s camp Grace Nursery School in Wyckoff will open registration for its summer camp program on April 22. The Summer Full of Fun program is open to children ages three through five, and runs eight weeks in June, July, and August. Classes meet from 9 a.m. to noon and two-, three-, and five-day programs are available. Each week, campers participate in special theme activities. The classes are set up for 15 children per class with a teacher and an assistant. The cost for non-registered Grace Nursery School students is $110 for the five-day program, $78 for the three-day program, and $56 for the two day program. Veterans invited to YMCA program The Wyckoff Family YMCA will hold its second Roll Call for Veterans program and breakfast on Tuesday, April 23 at 9 a.m. The event will be held at the Y located at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. Monday at the Movies announced The Wyckoff Free Public Library, located at 200 Woodland Avenue, will present Monday at the Movies at 2 p.m. in the Shotmeyer Room. April’s movies feature heroes who find themselves on incredible personal journeys. On April 22, the movie will be “Stand by Me,” (1986) starring River Phoenix and Wil Wheaton. Based on Stephen King’s story “The Body,” this film tells the tale of Gordie LaChance, a writer who looks back on his preteen days when he and three close friends went on an adventure to find the body of a kid who had gone missing and was presumed dead.
