Franklin Lakes
Laquidara named Woodside principal
by Frank J. McMahon The Franklin Lakes K-8 Board of Education, acting on the recommendation of Superintendent of Schools Frank Romano, has unanimously approved the appointment of a new principal for the Woodside Avenue School. Christine A. Laquidara will become principal on July 8 at a salary of $152,000, and her contract will extend to June 30, 2014. The Woodside Avenue School has a professional staff of 65 and serves a school community of approximately 300 students in grades K-5, including two special education classes. Laquidara has a master’s degree educational leadership from Rider University, a master’s in education/reading from East Stroudsburg University, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in criminal justice, also from East Stroudsburg University. Earlier, she served in a variety of capacities in the educational arm of the New Jersey Department of Corrections. For the past 12 years, she has been with the Hopewell Valley Regional School District, where she is currently in her third year as director of curriculum and instruction. Prior to that, she served for three years as an elementary assistant principal and six years as elementary school principal. “Ms Laquidara is the rare find,” Romano said after his recommendation was approved by the school board, “one who possesses all the attributes that one hopes to find in a public school leader. She is well educated, she possesses broad and deep life experience, and she presents the dis-
positions and skill sets that will serve students, parents, teachers, administrative colleagues, and the general organization well. “This particular candidate emerged as one of three finalists among the 15 (who) came to the table during the two rounds of representative committee interviews. Subsequently, the candidate presented herself extremely well and interviewed strongly at the representative board committee session. She comes highly recommended by her current administration, has an extremely rich background, and embodies most, if not all, of the attributes that our community, faculty, and staff identified in their school and candidate profiles. “Throughout the interview experience, Ms. Laquidara (continued on page 25)
