Ramsey September 12, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 5 Junior Woman’s Club brings slide to town pool Patrons of the Ramsey Municipal Pool have been enjoying a new slide thanks to the Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey. The slide was installed and opened to the public in July. “We’re grateful for the Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey for contributing to the slide,” Ramsey Mayor Christopher Botta said last week. “They’ve done great work and have made many contributions. This is another example of their generosity and community spirit.” Mayor Botta explained that the borough paid for the pool amenities and the club is reimbursing the borough for the associated costs. JWC Ramsey Co-presidents Jennifer “Jenn” Lessieu and Devon Deas explained that their group consists of over 60 dynamic borough women who work together to raise funds to better the community where they have all chosen to reside and raise their families. “The Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey was approached by the town council and asked if we were interested in supporting new amenities to the town pool,” Lessieu explained. “The option was to purchase a slide for kids and adults to enjoy. Many members of our club spend their summers at the Ramsey pool and we were excited to help.” She added, “Our club has donated a substantial amount to date toward the slide and we are working on summer 2013 events to raise the balance of the costs, which are between $30,000 and $58,000. (The) cost includes the slide, diving board, and installation fees.” Plans for next summer’s fundraisers include a Family Day with bounce houses and games, and an adult Barbecue and (continued on page 11) Standing beside the new slide are Devon Deas and Jenn Lessieu, JWCR Co-presidents; Councilman Ken Tyburczy, liaison to the Pool Commission; and Mayor Chris Botta. The Ramsey Board of Education and the Ramsey Teachers Association jointly announced the signing of a tentative contract agreement late last month. The proposal will cover the 2010-11 and 2012-13 school years. Officials said details would be released after both parties have ratified the pact. The teachers and secretaries received a presentation on the agreement last week, after which time they were expected to vote on the contract. The school board will present the plan to the public and is expected to vote on the agreement on Sept. 20. Tentative pact on table “Our district is going through an era of change and this contract allows us to take full advantage of the exciting new initiatives our staff members bring forward,” said Board of Education President Tony Gasparovich. Rich Romains, president of the RTA, said, “I am happy that the two sides have reached an agreement that resolves two central issues for the district: reducing the cost of health benefits while maintaining reasonable coverage for its employees; and a collaborative approach that significantly improves a technical problem on the teachers’ salary guide.”
