Seniors travel to Atlantic City The Mahwah Seniors will travel to Atlantic City’s Taj Mahal on Oct. 17. Participants will travel by deluxe motor coach provided by Airbrook Limousine. The cost is $52 and includes the tip, $20 in slot play, and a ticket to “DINO,” a tribute show featuring Dean Martin’s son and daughter, Ricci and Gail. Pasta Dinner planned The Ramapo Reformed Church located at 100 Island Road in Mahwah will hold its annual Pasta Dinner on Sept. 22. Diners will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. -- in between the Mahwah Day festivities and the evening fireworks. The church is located within walking distance of Com-
modore Perry Field. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children under age 12. A family ticket for four adults is $25. The dinner will include stuffed shells, bread, beverage, and dessert. Child musician performs benefit concert Nine-year-old musician Evan Sheppard of Mahwah will perform at a fundraising concert in memory of his father, recording industry veteran Robert M. Sheppard, on Sept. 15. The young Sheppard will join the original members of his parents’ band at its first reunion after 35 years. Performers will also include the popular local classic rock bands Hawk and The Past Masters. The benefit will include a special fundraiser to benefit cancer patients whose medical expenses are not covered by insurance. The event will take place at Redd’s Restaurant in Carlstadt beginning at 6 p.m. A the HSPA language test; that total was 34.7 percent in Mahwah. HSPA math test results showed 41 percent of Ramsey’s students demonstrating advanced proficiency; that figure was 42.6 percent in Mahwah. Ramsey High offers 19 Advanced Placement exams, and 90 percent of the students who take those exams score a grade of three or higher. In Mahwah, where 21 AP exams are available, 84 percent of the AP test takers scored a three or higher. The adjusted cohort graduation rates were 96.93 in Ramsey and 96.2 in Mahwah. The public high school that achieved the top place listing this year was New Providence High School in Union County. The rankings of other public high schools in Bergen County were: Glen Rock, fourth place; Ramapo, 17th; Ridgewood, 28th; Waldwick, 54th; Midland Park, 68th; and Northern Highlands Regional, 22nd. Chamber hosts Meet & Greet On Thursday, Sept. 27, the Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a free Meet & Greet sponsored by Sharp Electronics Corporation. The group will meet from 8 to 10 a.m. at 1 Sharp Plaza in Mahwah. Participants will have the opportunity to network with other business people and learn what is new within the Chamber. CERT training classes announce Community Emergency Response Team training will be offered at the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute on Campgaw Road in Mahwah beginning Monday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. This nine-week training course provides residents with basic skills and information on what to do before, during,
and after a disaster to aid themselves, their families, and the community. There is no cost to participate in the CERT training course. At the completion of the program, basic CERT safety equipment will be issued to each participant. Class size is limited; early registration is encouraged. Mahwah CERT is an all-volunteer organization made up of residents who are trained to support professional first responders, (police, fire, and EMTs, et al.) in all types of emergencies. CERT is part of a national program and is organized locally under the auspices of the Mahwah Office of Emergency Management. Ancient Indian philosophy to be discussed Join world renowned philosopher and best-selling author Swami Parthasarathy on Sept. 30 for a lecture about Vedanta, the ancient Indian philosophy. The program will be held from 10:15 a.m. to noon, at Hindu Samaj Auditorium, 247 West Ramapo Avenue in Mahwah. Swami Parthasarathy will present this ancient technique for bringing life into focus, generating fulfillment, and encouraging greater success in a field of activity. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Swami Parthasarathy is widely regarded as the greatest living exponent on Vedanta. The average class size was 22.4 in Ramsey and 25 in Mahwah. The student/faculty ratio was 10.3 students to every one faculty member in Ramsey and 10.7 students to every one faculty member in Mahwah. The percentage of faculty members with advanced degrees was 69.5 in Ramsey and 66.4 in Mahwah. The average combined SAT score in Ramsey was 1632. Mahwah’s average combined SAT score was 1656. A total of 42.3 percent of Ramsey’s students achieved advanced proficiency on
