Bereavement support group forming Saint Paul R.C. Church’s Bereavement Support Group will begin meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20. The group will meet from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the parish center located at 193 Wyckoff Avenue. The eight-week program will offer support for those struggling to cope with bereavement. Chamber sets September meeting The Ramsey Chamber of Commerce will meet at the Ramsey Country Club, 105 Lakeside Drive, on Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. The fee to attend is $15 per person, which includes fruit, vegetable platters, cheese and crackers, soda, water, coffee, tea, and a cash bar. The group will discuss Ramsey Day, upcoming events, Ramsey High School activities, membership, and meeting locations. Chamber President Rob Tilton encourages a large turnout for this event. Seniors to host varied events The Ramsey Seniors will travel to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse on Wednesday, Oct. 17 to see “Everyone Loves Opal.” This comedy is the story of Opal Kronkie, a middleaged recluse who lives at the edge of a municipal dump and collects junk that can be toted in her little wagon to her ramshackle home. The fun begins when three zany con artists on the lam discover her establishment and decide it would make a perfect hideout. The bus will depart from Finch Park at 9:30 a.m. and will return at approximately 4:30 p.m. The cost is $60 per person and includes bus transportation, lunch, and the show. Sign-up will begin on Sept. 11 at Ramsey Borough Hall, 33 North Central Avenue in Ramsey. Checks should be made payable to the Borough of Ramsey. On Sept. 13, six Ramsey Senior ping-pong players: Jae Yun, Lorraine Strangfeld, Joe Wraga, Claire Abbot, Dex Levin, and Snow Chu will participate in the New Jersey Senior Olympics held in Woodbridge.
The seniors’ “Picnic at the Pool” is set for Wednesday, Sept. 12 at noon. This annual event features food, fun, and special contests. Sign up at the borough hall, 33 North Central Avenue, during business hours. The cost is $5 per person. Checks should be made payable to Ramsey Seniors. All borough residents over age 60 are invited to attend. The Wednesday card players want to increase the number of persons interested in mahjong. Mass and healing service planned Father Campoli, a member of the Institute Voluntas Dei, will conduct a healing service at Saint Paul R.C. Church at 200 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey on Sept. 13. The service will be held at 8 p.m. Father Campoli, who holds healing services, missions, and retreats around the world, will lead attendees in prayer for healing the mind, body, and spirit. All are invited. Club announces upcoming events The Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey will participate in several events this fall as the group resumes its monthly meeting schedule. On Sept. 8, the juniors will march in the Ramsey Day Parade and will be selling Italian ices at the JWCR booth. Residents are invited to drop by to participate in a prize contest and to receive membership information. The annual Touch-A-Truck event and Blood Drive will be held on Oct. 7 at the Ramsey Farmers Market. The market is open on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Street train station. Children of all ages will be able to climb on and learn about different trucks and emergency service organizations. Proceeds will support Ramsey’s emergency service groups, including the fire department, rescue squad, ambulance corps, and police department. Visitors to the event are asked for a suggested family donation of $5. A Bloodmobile will be on hand for anyone willing to donate to the blood bank. The juniors will sponsor Pumpkin Painting at the Ramsey Farmers Market on Oct. 28. Children are invited to pick and paint a pumpkin for Halloween. Club members will be on hand to talk about the organization’s programs and projects. The club’s Sept. 13 meeting will be held at the ambulance corps building at 41 South Island Avenue in Ramsey. The session will begin at 7:30 p.m. New members are welcome. The Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey serves and sup-

Annual Dog Show seeks entrants The Thirteenth Annual Dog Show, which is sponsored by the Ramsey Recreation Commission, will be held Sunday, Sept. 9. Participants will meet at the municipal pool on East Oak Street at 2 p.m. This event will feature the leash-led obstacle course designed by Recreation Commissioner John Sebastian. In addition, dogs may be entered in competitions for best costume, best trick, cutest male and female pets, largest and smallest dogs, and best distinguishing feature categories. The registration fee is $5 per category per dog. Pre-registration is suggested. Registration forms are available at the Ramsey Municipal Building, 33 North Central Avenue, or online at www.ramseynj.com. Forms will also be available the day of the show. The program, which meets at Holiday Bowl in Oakland on Fridays, will begin Sept. 14. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to join. Bumper bowling is available for younger children. The cost is $65, and registration forms are available in the municipal building, 33 North Central Avenue Ramsey, and online at www.ramseynj.com under the recreation tab. Extended Day Program available The Ramsey Extended Day Program, which is offered under the auspices of the Ramsey Adult School, offers before and after school care services to children in the Ramsey District Schools at Tisdale, Hubbard, and Dater schools. In addition, the program offers a homework study center at the Smith Middle School specifically for students to work on homework in a supervised setting after school. Staff members participate with the children in homework club, sports activities, crafts, and special programs. Now in its fourth year, the program is looking to expand the RED staff.
