Mahwah October 31, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 5 Municipal election 2012 features seven hopefuls by Frank J. McMahon The municipal election in Mahwah has seven candidates seeking election to the township’s government. Incumbent Mayor William C. Laforet and Mahwah Department of Public Works Superintendent Edward F. Sinclair are seeking election to the four-year term as mayor, while incumbent Council Members H. “Lisa” DiGiulio and John F. Roth, attorney Jonathan N Marcus, and businessmen Steven Sbarra and Todd Van Duren are seeking election to the three council seats. Councilman Samuel Alderisio did not seek reelection. Laforet, the operator of the Sunoco Gas Station at the corner of Franklin Turnpike and Miller Road for the past 34 years and a current member of the Mahwah Municipal Alliance, is seeking a full term as mayor. He was elected last year to serve out the final year of the unexpired term of Mayor Richard J. Martel who died in March 2011. At a recent Candidates Night sponsored by the Mahwah Public Library, Laforet advised that he has twice been named Man of the Year by the Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce. He has also been named the Man of the Year by Bergen County. He claims he has accomplished many of the tasks he promised to accomplish when he was elected in 2011 and that he has run Mahwah as a business and has involved more citizens in local government while trying to make the township’s government do more with less. “As your mayor, I know what’s best for Mahwah,” Laforet says on his reelection website. “The reason I know is because I’ve asked you time and time again, and you’ve answered. From roundtable discussions at our citizen advisory panels to hearing your concerns standing on line for coffee at the bagel shop, I am listening. My number one focus remains on you: the citizens, the neighbors, the taxpayers of this fine town.” Pointing out that his family has strong roots in Mahwah, (continued on page 16) Field trip fun Students from Pinnacle Learning Center Pre-School recently visited Mahwah fire fighters and their fire truck.
