Page 14 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • October 31, 2012 Ramsey Council candidates (continued from page 3) Moore has been a Ramsey resident since 2007. He and his wife are active parishioners of Guardian Angel Church. The two have three children. “It is time for all of us to come together for what’s best for our town,” Moore said. “Regardless of party we belong to we all believe that our families and our town come first. I look forward to working with everyone--Republicans and Democrats alike--who want to come together for Ramsey. “Ramsey is a great town--but it can be even better. We can look to ways to expand cultural activities, improve our bike paths, and engage our citizens in government. I know I have the right experience, values, and vision to help lead our community.” Van Horn said she grew up with a great love for Ramsey and wants to make a contribution to the town that has helped shape the person she has become. She said she believes a new perspective will help the borough navigate difficult times and successfully carry Ramsey forward into the rest of the 21st century. Van Horn said that the old practice of having politically connected consultants figure out how to save money while the consultants are paid large sums of money does a great disservice to the residents. “We have many residents who want to volunteer their time but aren’t being given the opportunity either because of their political affiliation or because they don’t work for a consulting firm that makes donations to the Republican Party,” Van Horn said. “We all know one party rule doesn’t benefit the residents and I would like to give a voice to those residents who are not being represented.” Van Horn has lived in Ramsey for 11 years. Her father’s family has lived in town for more than 50 years, and her mother’s family, the Donohue’s, has lived in Ramsey for 44 years. Van Horn is a graduate of Ramsey High School, where she was named to the National Honor Society and was involved in extracurricular activities. She graduated cum laude from the University of New Haven with two bachelor’s degrees, including one in forensic science and one in chemistry. She also received a master’s degree in education from the University of New Haven and is currently student teaching to earn her teaching certificate. Verdone and his wife, Dorothy, have lived in Ramsey for 34 years and raised their two children in town. “We are especially grateful for the education they received in the Ramsey Public School system,” he said. Verdone graduated from City University of New York with an AAS in advertising production/graphic arts management and worked at IBM for 41 years. He retired in 2008 as the international director of IBM Global Promotions. “My community and heritage are very important to me,” Verdone added. “I am a charter member of the Greater Ramsey UNICO Chapter (and) I served as president from 2007 to 2008.” In 2009, UNICO National elected Verdone to serve as New Jersey District IX Governor, overseeing seven Bergen County UNICO chapters. He is currently a Ramsey UNICO director and the sponsor representative for Meaningful Movements, which serves differently-abled children and adults. Verdone is also a group leader for the Men’s Sharing Prayer Group at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wyckoff. “As a long-time Ramsey citizen, it is important to me that Ramsey be a town for all ages,” he said, adding that the most prominent concern is property taxes. “I sincerely believe that those who have chosen to settle in Ramsey remain here for as long as they wish. If elected, I would ensure our tax dollars are managed with that in mind.” Congregation celebrates A Service of Baptism recently took place at the First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey before family, friends, and the congregation. Elder Merrill Simpson introduced each family and presented them with prayer shawls created by the Prayer Shawl Ministry.
