Efstathios Dervissis of Mahwah died Sept. 28. He was 68. He came to the United States from Greece in the 1960s and immediately became a citizen. He worked for ADI in Palisades Park for 25 years, and Tam Metals for 17 years. He is survived by his wife Eugenia, his children Christos Dervissis and George Dervissis, and his siblings Voula and Maria. He was predeceased by his siblings Thanasis, Kostandinos, and George. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Walter Kaczala of Mahwah, formerly of Hillsdale, died Sept. 29. He was 87. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was the proprietor of Homestead Plumbing & Building Corporation, and was a developer and building contractor for more than 60 years. He was a member of Faith Reformed Church in Midland Park. He is survived by his children Betty Ann Kaczala of Allendale and Sandra Lee Irwin of Danbury, Connecticut, two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and his siblings Dorothy Reigel of Lake San Marcos, California, Theodore Kaczala of River Vale, and Ronald Kaczala of Wantage. He was predeceased by wife Lillian (nee Braakman), and his step-granddaughter Josephine Irwin. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Margaret Mary “Dolly” Schell of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, died Sept. 30. She was 92. She had worked for the Charles W. Hoyt Agency in New York City in the 1950s. Later, she was a travel agent with Walker Travel of Ridgewood. She was a Grey Lady volunteer at the Valley Hospital for over 30 years. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood, and a member at Ridgewood Country Club. She is survived by her son Robert K. Schell Jr. and his wife Ronda of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her husband Robert K. Schell Sr., a former mayor of Ridgewood. Schmitt of Glen Rock died Oct. 1. He is survived by his wife Dianne, his children Christopher and Jennifer, his son-in-law Frank, his granddaughter Emma, and his mother Ingeborg. John Stokes of Mahwah, formerly of Wyckoff, died Sept. 30. He was 82. He was a U.S. Korean War veteran. Before retiring in 1986, he was president of Stokes Dairy Farms, Inc. He was director of Jefferson National Bank and director of Clifton Savings and Loan. He served as trustee and treasurer of the New Brunswick Theological Seminary from 1988-98, and was a member of Faith Reformed Church in Midland Park where he served as elder, deacon, and treasurer for many years. He is survived by his wife Gertrude (nee Outslay) Stokes, his children John Jr. (Jack) Stokes of Franklin Lakes, Kenneth Stokes of Omaha, Nebraska, Barbara Moran of Waldwick, and Mark Stokes of Midland Park, 12 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and his siblings Nicholas Stokes, Arthur Stokes and Elsie Leesman. Tucci of Ridgewood died Oct. 1. He was 97. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran of WWII. After leaving the Merchant Marines, he formed his first company, Tucci Bros. Construction, with his brother Joseph. He subsequently established Forti Builders, Plane Construction, and Denum Realty. He was an honorary member of the New Milford Elks. He is survived by his wife Mary Passaretti Tucci of Ridgewood, his daughters Norvell Shaw of Newfoundland, Pennsylvania and Elaine Sinatra of Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and his sister Gloria Unterweiser. He was predeceased by his first wife Marie Pinetti Tucci. Arrangements were made by Santangelo Funeral Home in Lodi. Memorial donations may be made to Valley Hospital Hospice. Hermine Wernikowski of Wyckoff, formerly of Hawthorne and Poughkeepsie, New York, died Sept. 28. She was born in Vienna, Austria. She was a member of the Advent Lutheran Church in Wyckoff and a former member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie, New York, where she established and coordinated “The Young at Heart Program.” She is survived by her daughters Maria Macfarlan, Juliana, Heidi Hample, and Susan Collins, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her sister Inge Hagenaur. She was predeceased by her husband Romuald. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Seniors announce change of venue The Ramsey Seniors will travel to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse on Oct. 17. The bus will depart at 9:30 a.m. from the Ramsey Pool located on East Oak Street in Ramsey. Participants are urged to note the change of location. Children’s Halloween Party set The Ramsey Public Library invites children to don their Halloween costumes for an early Trick or Treat party on Thursday, Oct. 11 This 4 p.m. event will feature Steve Woyce from Full Effect Productions. Church holds Wellness Day The senior ministry at Saint Paul’s R.C. Church invites the community to its Oct. 27 program, “A Time to Heal.” This event, which focuses on maintaining wellness, will begin at 9 a.m. with coffee. Guest speakers will discuss options for ongoing health. The program will end at 1 p.m. Seniors, non-seniors, and caregivers are invited. Freewill donations will be accepted. Boy Scouts host Pancake Breakfast The Ramsey Cub Scout Pack 175 will hold its 22nd Annual Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, Oct. 28. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Saint Paul’s School Cafeteria at 187 Wyckoff Avenue. Tickets for this all-you-caneat event are $6 and may be purchased at the door. Children under five years old will be admitted free of charge. Proceeds from the breakfast will support the Cub Scout’s activities. Club plans theater trip The Leisure Club will travel to the American Music Theatre in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for a Christmas show on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The cost to attend is $48 and includes transportation, lunch at Miller’s Smorgasbord, and the show.
