Free Rabies Vaccine Clinic available The Mahwah Board of Health will hold its annual free Rabies Vaccine Clinic on Wednesday, Nov. 28. The clinic will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mahwah Department of Public Works Garage located at 142 North Railroad Avenue. Dogs on leashes will be vaccinated from 6 to 7:30 p.m. No retractable leashes please. Cats in carriers are welcome from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Pets will be vaccinated with the three-year rabies vaccine formulation as provided by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. This program is open to New Jersey residents only. Proof of residency may be requested. In the event of inclement weather, visit www.mahwahtwp.com for cancellation information. Gingerbread house workshops set Mahwah Girl Scout Ambassador Troop 903 will host a series of after school workshops at which boys and girls will build and decorate gingerbread houses. Workshops will be held Dec. 3 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Betsy Ross School, Dec. 5 from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. at Ramapo Ridge Middle School, and Dec. 10 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at George Washington School. The cost is $11. (Snow date for all workshops is Dec. 17.) In addition to the gingerbread project, each child will take home a fun patch. Snacks will be provided. Free clothing available The Clothing Closet Ministry at the Ramapo Reformed Church has free seasonal clothing available for infants,
children, and adults. Items include a variety of sweaters, coats, jackets, shirts, jeans, dresses, sneakers, shoes, and more. For a referral, call the Mahwah Township Department of Human Services at (201) 529-5757. Mahwah residency is not required. An appointment will be made with the volunteers of the Clothing Closet. The thrift shop is located at the rear of the education building of the church located at the corner of Island Road and West Ramapo Road in Mahwah. Donations of seasonal clothing are accepted on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. ‘Music of Vaudeville’ slated The Mahwah Public Library will present “Music of Vaudeville” with Cracked Walnuts Jan and Jeff Ausfahl on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. The entire family may enjoy this program of music, stories, and humor from 1890s Vaudeville through Prohibition. The program will include favorites such as “Carolina in the Morning” and “Shine on Harvest Moon.” The program is free, and no tickets are necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. Library hosts varied programs The Mahwah Public Library provides free programs on Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are not necessary; seating is available on a “first come” basis. “Titanic: Survivors and Their Stories” will be presented by Traveling Literary Theater on Nov. 25. Attendees will learn details of the disaster through heartfelt accounts from those who survived and boarded the Carpathia on the morning of April 15, 1912. The library is located at 100 Ridge Road. Group to discuss Saint Luke’s Gospel At 5 p.m. on Nov. 25, the Not by Bread Alone Spiritual Book Group will discuss the Gospel of Saint Luke at Panera Bread, 1300 Route 17 in Ramsey. Luke’s gospel was written for early Christians and is noted for its themes stressing the mercy of God, documenting the merciful acts
of Jesus Christ, accounts of Jesus’ concern for the poor and oppressed, and his care and respect for women. Saint Luke also devotes much attention to the interior life of prayer. The group’s upcoming schedule will include: “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” by Scott Hahn on Dec. 30; “Meeting Jesus in the Gospels” by George Martin on Jan. 27, 2013; and “Sober Intoxication of the Spirit” by Raniero Cantalemessa on Feb. 24. Play a Les Paul guitar Musicians are invited to sign up to play precious guitars once owned by Les Paul. Forty-five minute sessions will be held at the Mahwah Museum on Dec. 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. Among the guitars available is one that was made especially for Paul and used in his West Coast performances. An identical guitar was kept on the East Coast for his use. There is also a guitar that was made for Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin and a custom guitar made by Gibson to honor the first responders on the 10th Anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Up to five players can play together at each 45-minute session. Family and friends are welcome to observe. Fortyfive minute sessions are $25 per guitar player and $5 per audience member.
