The event will be held Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the venerable house at 421 Franklin Avenue, just north of the intersection of Wyckoff and Franklin avenues. The house, built in 1730 and expanded in 1824, is the oldest home in Wyckoff. The annual Holiday Open House showcases the house decked out for the Christmas season, complete with wreaths and garlands of fresh greens designed specifically for the occasion by volunteers and trustees. This event has been held every year since 1976. Highlighting the day will be self-guided tours that will give visitors the opportunity to experience a Wyckoff home as it would have appeared two centuries ago. Visitors are also invited to enjoy holiday music, and mulled cider and cookies that will be served in the home’s dining room. Admission to the Holiday Open House is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children under age 12. The Zabriskie House is one of the finest examples of American architecture in northern New Jersey. Antique-filed rooms reflect the Dutch colonial heritage of the region during the 18th and 19th centuries. In addition to being the home of the Van Voor Haze, Quackkenbush, and Enjoy Currier & Ives Christmas at Zabriskie House The VanVoorhees-Quackenbush-Zabriskie House Zabriskie families, the structure was also used as village store, tavern, candy store, hotel, and ballroom. Today, the house and gardens are representative of the estate of Grace Quackenbush Zabriskie, who bequeathed the house to the township in 1964. The historic home is managed by a board of trustees, whose members include Jean Hildebrandt, Bill Bushman, and Jim and Judy Abma. The house has recently undergone repairs thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers, including Kuiken Brothers of Midland Park and Barrister Construction.
