The Mahwah Public Library now permits township residents to ask questions and get information from the library via text message. According to a recent Nielsen Mobile Survey, Americans text message almost twice as much as they talk on cell phones, making texting a preferred means of communication while on-the-go. “Recognizing the increased use of text messaging by patrons of all ages, we felt it important to offer a way to communicate with the library via text messaging,” said Allison Moonitz, supervising librarian at the Mahwah Library. “The new service provides an easy-to-use interface for our

librarians and maintains the privacy of our patrons’ information.” For patrons who are unable to ask a librarian in person or online, or those who simply prefer texting to talking, the Text a Librarian service provides a convenient option for getting information on their cell phones from the helpful reference librarians at the Mahwah Library. Patrons are invited to ask questions by sending text messages. The librarians will answer on a Web-based interface, keeping a “live archive” of all the questions and answers. The service does not display phone numbers, and generates an anonymous ID for each patron in order to reference any conversation history. Text a Librarian was developed by Mosio, a technology company that enables companies and institutions to harness the power of mobile communications. Using The Township of Mahwah will hold its Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Sunday, Dec. 2. The group will gather at 4:15 p.m. at the municipal building at 475 Corporate Drive. Holiday Tree Lighting announced
4:30 p.m., and refreshments will be served. The tree lighting will be held at 5 p.m. Those who attend can expect to visit with Santa Claus, who will arrive via fire truck courtesy of the Mahwah Fire Department. Santa will hear requests for holiday gifts from children of all ages.
