November 14, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 5 Ramsey Ramsey’s incumbent Republican Council Members Deirdre Dillon, William Jones, and Joseph Verdone have won reelection. Dillon and Jones faced a challenge from Democrats Louis Moore and Kelly Van Horn. Dillon and Jones received 3,951 and 3,677 ballots, respectively, while Moore received 2,216 and Van Horn received 2,311. Verdone, who ran for the remaining two years of Bruce Vozeh’s unexpired term, garnered 3,803 ballots. Verdone was to have faced a challenge from Democratic candidate Scott Stahlmann, who attempted to withdraw from the race, but was too late. Stahlmann, whose name still appeared on the ballot, received 2,161 ballots. This year’s Democratic candidates did not file for the June primary, but received sufficient write-in votes to be included on the general election ballot. Moore previously ran for Ramsey Council in 2011. Republican incumbents retain council seats Councilwoman Dillon, and her husband, Hugh McDonald, are 18-year Ramsey residents and are raising their three children in the borough. Dillon is presently completing her sixth year as a Ramsey councilwoman and is serving her second year as the borough’s public safety commissioner. She is also liaison to the library board. In 2009, she was council president. During her service to the council, Dillon has chaired the Utilities, Buildings & Grounds Committee, the Building, Planning & Zoning Committee, the Public Health, Education, and Social Services Committee. She was also a member of various committees, including Finance and Administration. The councilwoman served as liaison to Ramsey Board of Health, the Design Review Board, the Ramsey Shade Tree Commission, the board of education, the pool commission, and the senior center. Dillon received a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from New Mexico State University, and a J.D. from New York Law School. In the community, Dillon has taught CCD at Saint Paul’s Church, served as an assistant coach for the Ramsey Soccer association, and was a member of the Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey. She is currently chief compliance officer and counsel to a registered investment adviser. Jones is a 14-year Ramsey resident who is raising three children in town. He is currently serving his sixth term on the council. He has served as chairman of the Health, Education & Social Services Committee, the Public Safety Committee, and the Public and Governmental Relations Committee. He has served on multiple committees, including Finance and Administration. Jones has also served as liaison to the Ramsey Environmental Commission, Ramsey Drug Alliance, Ramsey Fine Arts Council, the Ramsey Shade Tree Commission, the Ramsey Board of Health, and the Ramsey Board of Education. The councilman earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from William Paterson University. He is currently director of operations for Englewood Tire Wholesale. Verdone and his wife, Dorothy, have lived in Ramsey for 34 years and raised their two children in town. Verdone graduated from City University of New York with an AAS in advertising production/graphic arts management and worked at IBM for 41 years. He retired in 2008 as the international director of IBM Global Promotions. He is a charter member of the Greater Ramsey UNICO Chapter and served as president from 2007 to 2008. In 2009, UNICO National elected Verdone to serve as New Jersey District IX Governor, overseeing seven Bergen County UNICO chapters. He is currently a Ramsey UNICO director and the sponsor representative for Meaningful Movements, which serves differently-abled children and adults. Verdone is also a group leader for the Men’s Sharing Prayer Group at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wyckoff.
