November 14, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 23 Ramsey Review Bernstein Bard Quartet to perform The Bernstein Bard Quartet, one of the Hudson Valley’s top acoustic music groups, will perform at the Ramsey Public Library on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. The quartet swings, rocks, bops, and serenades the audience with music ranging from the music of Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Django Reinhart, George Gershwin, and Louis Jordan to Latin and tango selections by Jobim, Bonfa, and Bizet and winning renditions of traditional folk and popular melodies from around the world. The group’s contemporary flavor shines through renditions of songs by The Beatles, Sting, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, David Grisman, Jerry Garcia, Bob Marley, and many others. Learn about digital photography The Woman’s Club of Ramsey will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Hawthorne-Fortitude Masonic Lodge located at 24 North Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. Members should note that this meeting will take place one week earlier than usual. Ramsey resident Betsy Sabatini Coyne will discuss how to move, print, and share digital photos. Prospective club members are welcome. Farmers Market winds up outdoor season The Ramsey Farmers Market will wind up its outdoor season at the Main Street train station on Sunday, Nov. 18. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., shoppers will find fresh, local pro- duce and products from over 30 vendors, music, demonstrations by chefs, and children’s crafts. This last outdoor event of the season will feature local crafters at the market’s Artisan Corner, and entertainment by Hunter Hayes. The Farmers Market will move to its indoor location, the Eric Smith School at 73 Monroe Street, on Dec. 2. Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The indoor winter market will host over 25 vendors with fresh fish from the Hampton Bays, grass fed pasture raised meats, organic and hothouse produce, local orchard fruits and baked goods, artisanal cheeses and breads, homemade pastas, and much more. Male groups to launch Chapel Concerts Six male choral groups will open this year’s Chapel Concert series at Don Bosco Prep on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at Mary Help of Christians Chapel in Don Bosco Prep’s Saint John’s Hall. The concert will feature the Newark Boys Chorus, under the direction of Donald Morris, and the New Jersey Youth Chorus Male Ensemble, under the direction of Billy Baker. Performers will also include choruses from Delbarton, directed by David Blazier; Seton Hall Prep, directed by Theresa Neglia; Bergen Catholic, directed by Barbara Peraino; and Don Bosco Prep’s own chorus, directed by Toni Bilotti-Cecere. For the grand finale, all choruses will come together to sing Dan Davison’s “Shout for Joy!” Upcoming Chapel Concerts will include a Christmas concert with flute and harp duo Patricia Lazzara and Kristy Chmura on Friday, Dec. 14; a collegiate A Cappella Concert on Feb. 9; and the Don Bosco Prep Young Artists’ Scholarship Competition Finalists on April 20, for high school students who excel in the arts. Saint John’s hosts Annual Holiday Fair Saint John’s Memorial Episcopal Church will host its Holiday Fair Nov. 16 and 17 at the church located at East Main Street at Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. A mainstay in the community for over 30 years, the fair offers the Preview Gala, with a cocktail party feel, on Friday, Nov. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. The gala includes wine, hors d’oeuvres, an auction, and “first dibs” shopping for a $7 donation. On Nov. 17, children and parents will enjoy free admission to the fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children are invited to make crafts and shop at the Holiday Dollar Parlor while parents choose from a wide variety of theme baskets and handcrafted, high-quality holiday gifts. The event will also feature homemade gourmet foods, apple pies, a large selec- tion of baked goods, and breakfast and lunch at the Saint John’s Café. Thanksgiving Food Drive set On Friday, Nov. 16, Ramsey Responds will hold a Thanksgiving Food Drive to assist Ramsey residents in need. The drive will take place at the senior citizen center located in Finch Park. Food donations may be dropped off between 2 and 4 p.m. The organization suggests the following food items: frozen turkeys, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, canned fruit, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, boxed pie crust, pumpkin pie filling, Parmalat milk, coffee, tea, and roasting pans.Ramsey Responds also welcomes supermarket gift certificates ranging from $10 to $50. Scholarship application deadline approaching Applications for the Edward C. Syder Scholarship Foundation for the 2012 school year are now available. Eligible applicants must be residents of Ramsey who have completed their freshman year of college. Qualified applicants for these scholarship awards must demonstrate meritorious academic accomplishment and contribution to their college community, and must be of high personal character. College or graduate students who are current residents of Ramsey and meet the academic and service criteria are invited to write to the Edward C. Syder Scholarship Committee, P.O. The scholarship awards will be announced by Dec. 10, 2012. Church announces upcoming events The First Presbyterian Church at 15 Shuart Lane has scheduled several events for the next few weeks. The women’s association will host its Harvest Festival 2012 on Nov. 18 in Fellowship Hall following the 10 a.m. worship service. Everyone is invited to purchase brunch items, which will be sold for $1 to $3. Coffee, tea, and juice will be provided Proceeds from the festival will benefit the church’s mission partners, New City Kids. The Connections Book Group will discuss Conor Grennan’s “Little Princes: One Man’s Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal” on Nov. 14.
