November 7, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I, III & IV • Page 13 Opera company sets 75th Anniversary production In 1937, The Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company launched itself with a production of “Iolanthe,” a satirical opera about a clash between the stuffy House of Lords and a band of light-hearted fairies. Now, 75 years later, the company is celebrating its anniversary with a lively new production of that first show. “Iolanthe” will be performed with full orchestra one weekend only, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. Performances will be held at Benjamin Franklin Middle School located at 335 North Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood. Principal roles will be sung by Ann Alfano of Maywood; Christopher Cantu of Waldwick; John Holmboe of Pearl River; Brianne Keefe of Hasbrouck Heights; Eileen Karlson White, and Paul and Nell White of Teaneck; Carol Ciancia and Peter O’Malley of Oakland; Sarah O’Sullivan of East Hanover; and Jefferson Osborn of Peekskill. They The Ridgewood Symphony is among the largest volunteer symphonies in the country, with players from 48 different municipalities in Bergen, Passaic, and Rockland counties. The orchestra is directed by Arkady Leytush. This season’s remaining subscription concerts will take place on March 1 and May 3, 2013. In addition, the RSO will present a free young people’s concert on Feb. 28.
