The group will meet the fourth Thursday of the month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at The Ramsey Free Public Library, 30 Wyckoff Avenue. Anyone with a family member who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia disorder is invited to join. The program will be guided by trained facilitators from Distinctive Care Geriatric Care Management in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association of New Jersey. Free jazz concert announced The award-winning Ramsey High School Jazz Ensemble will perform a concert on the front lawn of Ramsey High School, 266 East Main Street, on Saturday, June 2 at 6 p.m. The community is invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of music. There is no cost to attend, but donations to the band and guard are welcome. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the school auditorium. Church activities announced The Literary Ladies at the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey will discuss Robert K. Massie’s “Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman” on May 23. Massie’s book is the story of a 14 year-old German princess who travels to Russia and becomes one of the most powerful women in history. The group meets at 10 a.m. in the Metzger Room of the church, which is located at 15 Shuart Lane in Ramsey. Copies of the books are available at the Ramsey Library. Seniors seek applicants, host events The Ramsey Seniors Nominating Committee is accepting applicants for a position on the executive committee, which plans the group’s annual activities and events. The election of officers will be held June 13 at the senior center. Ramsey residents who are over the age of 60 are invited to participate in the many activities offered. Leisure Club travels to Jersey Shore The Ramsey Leisure Club has planned a three-day bus trip to Wildwood, Cape May, and Atlantic City for Sept. 18 through 20. The trip will include two nights in Wildwood. The first day will include lunch and a wine sampling at the Tomasello Winery, dinner, and entertainment. The group’s visit to Cape May will include a visit to the Physick Estate, a trolley tour, a walk through the historical district’s Washington Mall, and dinner and show at Elaine’s Victorian Dinner Theater. Municipal pool registration open Registration for Ramsey Municipal Pool’s 2012 season is now in progress. The brochure will not be mailed to residents. Writing workshops offered The Ramsey Public Library, located at 30 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey, will hold a writing workshop for novice and experienced writers. The program will be held on May 17 at 7 p.m. The roundtable of writers will be led by local author Valerie Gross. The group will read, write, and discuss writing. All aspects of the craft will be addressed, from how to sit down and get to work to how to turn a simple sentence into a thing of beauty. This is not a critique group. No editing will be done in class. Participants will listen and offer suggestions and support. The program is free and registration is not required. Project Child Find seeks applicants Project Child Find is a service of the New Jersey State Department of Education that was established to help indentify unserved, disabled children from birth through age 21. Registration is now taking place in the local school districts, and the Northwest Bergen Council for Special Edu- cation is interested in locating individuals who may have disabilities who are in need of special education. Any parent or guardian with an infant or toddler who should be crawling, walking, or talking, but is not doing so, may call for information about resources and services for children under age three.
