Participants sought for Memorial Day parade The Township of Mahwah is seeking participants to march in Mahwah’s Annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade is scheduled for Monday, May 28. Veterans and members of community groups, schools, and scouts are invited to march. Participants will assemble at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Island Road at 9:30 a.m. Parade step off will be at 10 a.m. The parade will continue to Veterans Square for the traditional Memorial Day Service. Rottino to address Republican Club Anthony Rottino will discuss the upcoming primary election with members of the Mahwah Republican Club on Tuesday, May 15 at 7:30. Cub Scouts recruit members Cub Scout Pack 258 will host a May 30 spring recruitment session in the all-purpose room at Joyce Kilmer School, 80 Ridge Road in Mahwah. The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The pack is open to boys who will be entering grades one through four. Annual Fishing Contest announced The Township of Mahwah will host its 23rd Annual Fishing Contest on Saturday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Silver Creek, located at the corner of Airmount Road and Airmont Avenue. Prizes will be awarded to Mahwah anglers, ages five through 13. Proof of residency is required at registration. The event will be held rain or shine.
Community Blood Drive set A Mahwah Community Blood Drive will be held May 18. The event is being sponsored by the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute in cooperation with Community Blood Services. The drive will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. at the institute at 281 Campgaw Road. To schedule an
appointment, call (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation.
Betsy Ross Elementary School in Mahwah enjoyed a day with author Allison Formento learning her techniques as a writer and the children were able to purchase personally signed autographed copies of their choice of her books. Formento had lunch with Principal Christine Zimmermann and a few select students, including Carleigh Shingelo, Kilee Swofford, and Joey Siracusa.
