The Ramsey Board of Education reorganized last week, with Tony Gasparovich as president and Carrie Williams as vice president. Newly-elected trustees MaryEllen “Mae” Fine and David Rockefeller and returning trustee Richard Muti were also seated during the May 1 session. Gasparovich is now serving his fourth term on the board of education. The candidate was born in New York and raised in Palisades Park. He moved to Ramsey in 1993. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology and an MBA from Rutgers University. He is a vice president and partner at Reiner Group, Inc., a mechanical contracting and engineering firm based in Fair Lawn. Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Denver and is director of operations for an estate planning firm. She is a past-president of the Ramsey Education Foundation and has chaired several PTO committees. Fine is beginning her first term on the board. In addition to her work at Valley National Bank, she is an active volunteer in the local schools and with the local Scout-

ing programs. She is also a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Paul R.C. Church. Muti attended Ramsey’s public schools and later graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. He served as a U.S. Navy pilot, and later attended Harvard Business School on a fellowship. He earned his MBA from Harvard and later earned a law degree from Rutgers. He was a prosecutor for many years. He has taught English, history, American government and politics, and criminal justice at three New Jersey universities. He was elected mayor of Ramsey in 2002, and won election to the school board in 2009. Rockefeller graduated from Bogota High School and received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University. He has spent 25 years working in financial and managerial positions at media and publishing companies, and is currently general manager, group finance director at Hearst Magazines in New York City. An active volunteer, he has coached baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball. He is also the former treasurer for Ramsey Cub Scout Pack 306. He is a parishioner at Saint Paul’s and a member of the Ramsey Triathlon Club.
Alena Woods is winning writer
Alena Woods, a junior at Ramsey High School, was one of three award winners in a state-wide writing contest. The program was sponsored by the Elizabeth Ann Seton Center for Women’s Studies at Seton Hall University in celebration of Women’s History Month. The high school essay topic was to write about a woman who inspired the contestant. The contest drew more than 250 submissions. Woods presented her essay, ‘Life Lessons from a Crazy Cat Lady,’ to the attendees at the annual women’s conference brunch. A chamber of commerce is being organized in Ramsey, with an initial meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 15 at the Ramsey County Club, 105 Lakeside Drive. All Ramsey businessmen and women are welcome. The meeting is set to run from 6 to 8
