Attorney to address parent group Saddle River and Ramsey residents whose children have special needs are invited to a May 14 program with Lisa McCauley Parles, Esq. of Javerbaum, Wurgaft, Hicks, Kahn, Wikstrom & Sinins. McCauley Parles will present “The IEP Process” at 7:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. The program will include an overview of federal and state educational laws and regulations, how to prepare for Individualized Education Plan meetings, and how to develop IEPs. Car Show participants sought The Second Annual Ramsey High School Car Show will be held on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Rain date: May 20.) Antique cars, trucks, street and hot rods, and motorcycles are invited to participate in the event which will be held on the front lawn of the high school. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Trophies will be presented in various categories. The cost to register a vehicle is $10. The fee will rise to $15 the day of the event. Registrants should complete the form found at www.ramsey.k12.nj.us under events and flyers. Proceeds from the event will benefit the auto shop program at Ramsey High School. Financial planning seminar set Independent financial planner Michael Lonier will present “Your Financial Framework for Today and Tomorrow” at the Ramsey Public Library on Wednesday, May 9. Plant Sale on May 12 at the Ramsey Train Station off Main Street. The sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature a large variety of annuals and perennials from professional growers and plants donated by the club’s members. There will be an assortment of hanging baskets, houseplants, and Mother’s Day gift baskets for sale. All proceeds from the event will benefit the club’s horticultural and educational programs. Church plans Rummage Sale Saint John’s Memorial Episcopal Church, located on the corner of Main Street and Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey, will hold a Rummage Sale on May 11 and 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The sale will include clothing for the family, shoes, accessories, toys, miscellaneous kitchen and household items, linens, decorations, and more. The church’s weekly worship schedule includes Sunday services at 8 and 10 a.m., and a Celtic Mass on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. Stapleton to address gardeners Celeste Stapleton will present “Fauna in the Flora: Deterring Critters in Your Garden” to the Ramsey Area Garden Club on May 8 at 6:45 p.m. The club meets in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Stapleton specializes in edible and native landscaping and is a consultant and practitioner of medical herbalism. She studied landscape design at the Bronx Botanical Garden’s School of Horticulture. She has co-managed a certified organic herb and produce farm in Sussex County and is employed at Rohsler’s Allendale Nursery in Allendale. Foundation to host ‘80s event The Ramsey Public Education Foundation will host an Awesome ‘80s Party on Friday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Ramsey Golf and Country Club. Break out those leg warmers, neon shirts and Members Only jackets and join the party for hors d’oeuvres and open bar. Live music will be provided by Mary’s Basement. Tickets cost $70 per person. programs and technology for Ramsey’s public schools. Proceeds from the event will be used for this purpose. Teen author holds book signing, reading Ramsey resident Matt Orso will read from his newly published book “Bonded at the Seams,” and offer a presentation on baseball on Wednesday, May 16 at the Ramsey Public Library. “Bonded at the Seams” is a fan’s account of what has been called the greatest game. The event will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Orso will sign copies of his book after the program. The book will be available for purchase. The program is suitable for all ages. Leisure Club travels to Jersey Shore The Ramsey Leisure Club has planned a three-day bus trip to Wildwood, Cape May, and Atlantic City for Sept. 18 through 20. The trip will include two nights in Wildwood. The first day will include lunch and a wine sampling at the Tomasello Winery, dinner, and entertainment. The group’s visit to Cape May will include a visit to the Physick Estate, a trolley tour, a walk through the historical district’s Washington Mall, and dinner and show at Elaine’s Victorian Dinner Theater. Muti to discuss crime book Local author Richard Muti will discuss his new true crime story, “The Charmer: The True Story of Robert Reldan -- Rapist, Murderer, and Millionaire -- and the Women Who Fell Victim to His Allure” at the Ramsey Library on Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. The library is located at 30 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Muti, a former borough mayor and current school trustee, has a legal background with the county prosecutor’s office as does his co-author Charles Buckley. Hear about their investigation into the series of crimes traced to Reldan and the ongoing saga since his conviction. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Ramsey Library.
