The Ramsey Seniors Nominating Committee is accepting applicants for a position on the executive committee, which plans the group’s annual activities and events. The election of officers will be held June 13 at the senior center. Ramsey residents who are over the age of 60 are invited to participate in the many activities offered. For application information, call Al Crecenzo at (201) 825-2925. The seniors will visit Thomas Edison’s estate and laboratory in West Orange on Sunday, May 20. The trip will include lunch at The Manor. The cost is $58 per person, payable to the Ramsey Seniors. The fee will be $53 for America the Beautiful cardholders. Seating is limited. The bus will leave from Finch Park at 8:45 a.m. and will return at approximately 3:30 p.m. Call (201) 825-3400. Seniors may sign up at borough hall for the trip to see the Broadway show, “Memphis” on Wednesday, June 13. The cost is $80 per person and includes transportation to New York City and lunch at Lattanzi Restaurant on 46th Street. The bus will depart from Finch Park at 10 a.m. and will return at approximately 6 p.m. Checks should be made payable to the Borough of Ramsey. Ladies Bocce meets on Thursdays at 10 a.m. The men play on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, call Al at (201) 825-2925 for a game of shuffleboard. An AARP 55-Alive Defensive Driving Course will be offered at the senior center on Thursday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sign up at borough hall. But Richard Walsh, a member of the commission, pointed out to the board that the township’s ordinance states that one tree should be replaced for every four being removed when a structure is being built, which is not the case with this application. Kelly said he felt the one for four replacement ratio is correct for a parking lot. Kelly also pointed out that the township calls for one parking space for every 2.5 seats in a restaurant, so this restaurant could have 225 seats. Board member Charles Jandris expressed the opinion that there were too many entrances and exits on the plan, but Kirch countered that the driveway being added is 175 feet away from the existing driveways, and that is no worse than the condition that now exists. Kirch also told the board the landscaping plan for the site is more than sufficient. However, the board added a condition to the approval that addition of the trees on the site would be verified as would the sight triangles at the driveways. The addition of a bench on the sidewalk along Franklin Turnpike was also made a condition of approval.
