Rosemary E. Ackerman, nee Hodson, of Ridgewood died April 24. She was 67. After teaching for 33 years, she retired from the Ridgewood Board of Education where she was a technology coordinator and later a middle school technology teacher. Prior to that, she taught gifted and talented students. She also served as a teacher in Tennessee, Indiana, and Hackensack. She was a volunteer at Valley Hospital’s Kurth Cottage. She is survived by her husband George H. Ackerman of Ridgewood, her children Lindsay A. Ackerman of Weehawken and George A. of Hoboken, her siblings Donald Hodson, James Hodson, Michael Fraser, Richard Fraser, and Douglas Fraser, and several nieces and nephews. Jean Therese O’Brien Burslem of Wyckoff died April 22. She was 82. She was a registered nurse and had worked at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff. She was a parishioner of Saint Anthony’s R.C. Church in Hawthorne. She is survived by her husband Donald J. Burslem Sr., her children Barbara Hubbard of Waldwick, Maureen Stier of Wyckoff, John Perez of Key Largo, Florida, Donald J. Burslem Jr. of Wind Cap, Pennsylvania, Sheila Byrnes of North Haledon, Patricia Burslem-Ferranda of Hawthorne, and Kate Castellvi of Hawthorne, and 13 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara O’Brien Thomas. Arrangements were made by Browning-Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne. He was a surgical coordinator for the North Jersey Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgical Offices in Clifton. He was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Franklin Lakes. He is survived by his wife Jesmary “Giselle” Ciocon (nee Demetillo), his parents Dr. Hermogenes and Celia Josefina (nee Cocjin) Ciocon, his siblings Dennis Ciocon, Christopher Ciocon, and David Ciocon, and his nephew and nieces Ethan, Emma, and Eva. where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, and golf. He was inducted in the Rockland County Hall of Fame for his achievements. He holds the records at Darlington Golf Course and Monroe Country Club and Warwick Country Club and Johnson Country Club. He is survived by his children Joyce Miller of Mahwah, Helen Bauer (Lyn) of Ridgewood, and Frank of Vorhees, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor. He worked for the Okonite Company in Ramsey for 40 years. He is survived by his wife Margie (nee Stack), his children Susan Fenocchi of Syracuse, New York and Wendy Halik of Binghamton, New York, and his granddaughter Katie Fenocchi. He was 103. He was a member of the Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church where he was the Sunday school superintendent for 28 years. He was an original member of the Upper Saddle River Fire Department and the Historical Society in Upper Saddle River. He is survived by his sister Alice Kruppo of Ramsey, his nephews Roger Williams of Kennebunkport, Maine and Kenneth Kruppo of Oak Ridge, and 12 grand and great nephews and nieces. He was 46. He was a 1983 graduate of Waldwick High School. He was a partner with D.N.D. Trucking in Harriman, New York, and attended Saint Luke’s R.C. Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. He is survived by his sister and brother-in law Maria Ann and John McWilliams, his brother and sister-in-law James J. and Jodi Moglia, nephews Parker McWilliams and Eric Moglia, and niece Michelle Moglia. She was a 1962 graduate of Roosevelt High School in New York. Before retiring in 1985, she worked in the law library for The New York Housing Authority. She was an animal advocate for the Humane Society, and was active in PETA, The Coalition for the Homeless, and the ACLU. She is survived by her daughter Anastasia Metke of Ridgewood. Rhoda Reynolds of Midland Park, formerly of Westwood, died April 24. She was 59. She had earned her doctorate in management. She was an adjunct professor of English at William Paterson University, specializing in technical and business writing. She was a teacher for the summer Educational Opportunity Fund program. In 2011 she gave the keynote address to the Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society. She had belonged to the Westwood Reformed Church, the Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church, and Midland Park Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by her husband Bruce, her brother Bob Sloyer, four nieces, and a nephew. She was predeceased by her mother Helen Sloyer Suffern, her stepfather Dr. Richard Suffern, and her father Rev. G. Travers Sloyer. Arrangements were made by the Olthuis Funeral Home in Midland Park. Merrilee Ruth Scott, nee Morschauser, of Mahwah, formerly of Montvale, died April 11. She was 67. She attended Saint Helena High School. She worked for many years for the Educational Opportunity Fund and the health services office at Ramapo College in Mahwah. She is survived by her children Ian Scott and Kieran Viola, both of River Vale and Erin Scott of Mahwah; her grandchildren Peyton, MacKinley, and Ava Scott, and Brady and William Viola, and adopted grandchild Roxy Menhaj. Elizabeth Marie Speer of Ramsey died April 9. She was 89. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School.
