Ramsey June 27, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 7 As he was preparing to leave the Ramsey School District, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roy R. Montesano told Villadom TIMES he was excited to be starting anew in New York. Dr. Montesano will be leaving Ramsey June 30 for the superintendent’s post in the K-12 Hastings-on-Hudson district, which he will assume on July 1. Montesano’s career has included 32 years as an educator in Bergen County. He spent the last six years in Ramsey. Born and raised in Hackensack, Montesano attended Cook College at Rutgers University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies. He received his master’s degree in administration from Seton Hall University and earned his doctorate in education in administration from Fordham University. The educator has 25 years of experience as a school administrator. Before he joined the Ramsey Public School District in 2006, he served as superintendent in Westwood for six years. He has also served as middle school principal in Montvale and a middle school science teacher and administrator in Ridgewood. He was the 2012 New Jersey Association of School Administrators Superintendent of the Year. Montesano Superintendent set to begin new post in New York was selected as the state’s overall winner after earning the title for the northern region. He has also received the Bergen County Elementary and Middle Schools Administrators Association Administrative Excellence Award. Bruce W. De Young, who retired as Ramsey’s superintendent at the end of 2005, will return to his former post while the district continues its search for Montesano’s permanent replacement. De Young received A.B. (summa cum laude) and M.A. degrees in mathematics from Montclair State University, and pursued graduate studies in educational administration at William Paterson University, Jersey City State College, and Teachers College at Columbia University. He is certified in the State of New Jersey as a school administrator, principal, supervisor, and secondary school mathematics teacher. He has served as a math instructor at Montclair State University, William Paterson University, and Bergen Community College. He taught math and computer science at Indian Hills High School in Oakland from 1968 to 1979 before he became math supervisor in Ramsey. He was Ramsey’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction from 1984 through 1991, after which time he became the district’s superintendent. Ramsey’s Brendon R. Perry has received the Dean A. Gallo Award from the New Jersey Association of REALTORS® Educational Foundation. His award was sponsored by North Central Jersey Association of REALTORS®. Perry was one of 40 New Jersey students who were honored for their achievements. The scholarships, which range from $1,000 to $2,500, are awarded to members of the New Jersey Association of Brendon Perry receives scholarship REALTORS® or relatives of NJAR® living in New Jersey who will be attending an undergraduate four-year institution, students currently enrolled in undergraduate fouryear institutions, and students pursuing graduate studies in real estate or related fields. Students are selected on academic achievement, financial need, interest in real estate endeavors, and contributions to family, school, and community.
